Hi, this is my first post, although I have been a lurker for several years and have enjoyed very much following the posts and characters on the site.

I thought for mothers day, I might post what I call my contenders for all races at the major meetings on SAT.

I say contenders, because until I see the prices available, I do not know what horses I will bet on.

The horses are in rank order. I have omitted including prices/rating points etc. I concentrate my wagering around the top six after scratchings.

They are entirely software/database/computer/generated. They are homemade, not commercial, and not for sale or anything that breaks the user code of conduct on this site. All care, no responsibility.

In fact, when I wager I only deal in numbers. I wouldn't have a clue mostly about the horses, jockey's, preferred track conditions or whatever. Across a day's action, day after day, for 3 years, the 'computer' has proved time and time again its smarter than me. Although I do tell it what variables I think is important!.

There will be some anomolies - such as high preforming stayers resuming over an unsuitable sprint. In the programming I try as best I can to allow for this, but they can slip through.

I notice that Dandy Kid in Melbourne is on top on one of the races. I know he's a wet tracker - probably back from a spell and maybe having a warm up run. If that's the case, I don't care. I am working on averages across days and weeks, and funny things can happen in racing. Same for rapid improvers coming through lower calls races.

I've got a number of what one US guy calls 'kinky variables built into the computer program that tosses up more than its share of value winners, without too much cost to the strike rate around the top three.

That's the edge.

Wagering methods can vary. You can concentrate on the top two and back both to win if you can secure ok odds. Or the top four either value win and/or exactas, standing the longest priced runners etc.

Personally, I concentrate principally on the top five. I stand the two or three of these runners at the longest odds over the others (including the sixth contender) in exactas. Depending on the odds (if they are real juicy), they can also go underneath the others, and are always boxed for an extra half unit.

E.G. Contenders in rank order 1,2,3,4,5,6. Longest odds in top five, 1,2,3.
Put 1,2,3 over 4,5,6 in a half exacta. Put 4,5,6 over 1,2,3 in an other half exacta, and - BOX 1,2,3 for a dollar. Your choice. You need to examine the prices in each race on merit. When you are dealing with value standout runners, exactas are the way to go, especially with the current TAB takeout discount.

There are heaps of other ways, though, you can go. The two or three best value runners over and under the two tote favourites in exactas is one. (The two favourites feature in first or second in 80% of races I am told). And box the value standouts.

Obviously the value runners on top in trifectas is also an option etc.

Anyway, for what they are worth, here's the contenders, as I see them in rank order before scratchings. For my purposes only the first six selections will considered for my wagering plays. If there are first starters in any of these races bet at your own risk.

( I notice a couple of runners numbers have slipped off, I'm too tired and lazy to put them in - note though).
