UK Racing
Was wondering if any forumites burn the midnight oil betting on the uk races. If so where do you get audio or better still visuals of the races you wager on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use William Hill radio. Just be careful as it's delayed by about 30 seconds.

And I got to be honest it is boring as hell. Need some strong coffee, because those commentators will surely put you to sleep. Even listened to a few greyhound races over there (through a different site which I cannot recall at the moment) and that is just as bad. They can't even be bothered learning the names of the dogs, just call out by numbers. |

Good point BJ,
That's why aussie racecallers are in such demand-such as Michael Roner(Rona?) in the U.S. and his other compatriots in other locations around the world. Learning from the methods of Bert Bryant, Ken Howard and "the accurate one," the immortal Bill Collins, our callers are able to provide several full run-throughs of all starters in a race at different stages, providing punters with an accurate idea of the running position of their wagered runner. Did you hear Michael Roner's(Rona?) recent revelation that in the U.S. they do not call any finishers beyond fourth placegetters. We definitely have the best callers in the world and should appreciate their skill. Cheers. |

Ah, Xanadu, its just that our callers can't count beyond 4. Many won't or can't even handicap their race card. I agree with you, the callers in Oz are the best, and could be employed here in the U.S. in "a New York minute".
Regards, Glenn

G'day The Avenger,
Have you identified any aspects of aussie racing which is done better in the good ol' USA or that we could learn from? Also, do you think that after analyzing our race times do you believe that our better performed runners could compete against the best in your part of the world? Is our off-course betting setup comparable to your OTB? Many countries have tried to copy and emulate our strategic plan which is the envy of many raceclubs throughout the world. Probably more important, have you shown a profit since you began investing on our horses? Looking forward to your views on ossie racing(as outlined by one of your commentators). |
