Default DOOMBEN 29/12

Hey guys, just after some input on ppls thoughts for doomben tomorrow, ive been looking through the form and ive got some thoughts on most of the races but always like to hear what everyone else has to say. So ill jinx my good run ive been having in brisbane and post some thoughts for tomorrow.

Race 1
KING LEONIDAS looks the one here, there is a couple of horses that look like they might push forward to put a bit of speed into the race, even with the bad barrier i think this horse is a little bit better than the opposition and should give a good sight with a bit of luck. Overall looks a pretty average race.

Race 2
SARATOGA i thought after its first run looked to be a good horse, though didnt seem to have anything when it got towelled by Hebitda last start. This horse raced at Toowoomba so wont be in the race so saratoga is the obviouse one to go back to. Heard something round about Chilled, won it's last barrier trial so i guiess you couldnt leave it out. 2yo's though so start throwing some darts.

Race 3
AUGUST FAIR looked to been working through the grades last prep, and this looks to be a race it could be right in. Looks on paper to be a heap of speed, so with a decent run in behind them and a bit of luck into the straight it could be swamping them all late. Young Lion did have a nice trial where it ran second to Umaprince, so if i had to choose one of the front runners that would be it.

Race 4
RULE BY RIGHT in a race that doesn't appear to have to much speed could get a great run not to far from the front, if it does its definitely in with a chance against these from the good barrier and down in weight.

Race 5
I think this could be a decent race, Swiss Ace 5 wins/6 starts looks like a decent horse, won well last start, but will this one be a little to far? I think if it gets taken on, which there are a couple that will look to go forward, and with 58.5 it might get run down. If the pace is right on then it wouldnt surprise me if My Limit was the one to get it on the line. My Limit e/w for me in this as i think Swiss Ace will be to short and maybe have a little ? with the step up in distance and the extra weight.

Race 6
Cant see too much pace in this at all, Andrology and maybe Lady's Opinion to go forward?? Might make it a bit hard to find something here, i really like Friscos Vision but will it be close enough?? If it can cross from the 12 gate and get in mid field or better i think it could put in a massive show. From the two front runners i'd prefer to take Lady's Opinion even from the wide gate, i liked the way it won last start, and think it might be the one to catch.

Race 7
This is an interesting race, Picardi Run and Babinda Half are both racing well, the weights they have been given has got me stumped as B H and P R both carried the same weight last time they met, B H beat P R yet P R is given 4.5 kg more?? Anyway im going to go with Picardi Run, i think he will be the big improver after the first run, and the claim will help to. Looks to be a bit of speed in the race but we have all seen what Babinda Half can do to them if left alone to much in front. One that wouldnt surprise me would be Picture Book, if the pace is really on in front this could swamp them.

Race 8
Looks to be a decent race to finish off, a fair amount of pace on by the looks of things. I like two here, Main Vein which i assume is going to be the favourite and Easy Rocker who has beaten Main Vein before though it was on a soft track. We have had a little rain today in Brisbane though there was plenty of sunshine to so i doubt we will see a very wet track tomorrow so i might work something out between the two horses.

Good luck tomorrow

r1/3 King Leonidas.
Plenty of pace here and well drawn for a back-marker. Second up 2 from 3 wins.

r2/11 Vulcania.
Helen Page has a good one on her hands here after a 5 length win in a trial over 900m at the Gold Coast. Watch on Que.

r4/6 Slim Pickings.
Half the field have had no wins in the past 12mths. SP has a good distance and track record and 2nd up is 2 from 3 wins.

r6/7 Lady's Opinion.
Should be able to box seat the only other leader in this race, Andrology and make it 2 from 2 this prep. Down 2kg.

r7/6 Spur Me On.
Nice weight drop from 1st up start. Great 2nd up record and trainer Gillian Heinrich is firing well at the moment.

r8/12 Main Vein.
Sticking with Gillian Heinrich to run a double here. 2nd up: 2 from 2 for this gelding and stepping up to favorite distance.

Tough day but I hope everyone strikes a winner or three. Good luck!

Spur Me On is scratched and Heinrich has chosen to race Main Vein on the Coast.

Here are my tips and thoughts for the day:
Race 1: Guerrouj. Each way. Heathcote said the other day that it and Majorca were in fine order although he has a poor first up record and this is probably a tad short, with minimal pace in the race and the rail out five metres, Seamer may get a gun run off the pace.
Race 2 and 3: Don't like
Race 4: Eskimo Dan. Couldn't buy any luck last start. J.Byrne aboard.
Race 8: Mono Mac. Beat Girls Jeuney and Easy Rocker last start and Girls Jeuney ran well at Toowoomba yesterday. Should get a nice run off the pace and the claim from Amy Taylor will help.

Good luck!

R1 has 3 leaders and 2 on-pacers is this so the pace should be on.
r4 Might be worth noting that Eskimo Dan hasn't won since 26.08.06. Might win, but it would be as hell of a suprise regardless who is on it. Good luck.

Thumbs down

What shocker of a ride by J BYRNE on King Leonidas. Rode this classic back-marker up on the pace 3 wide all the way and missed by a nose to a 40/1 shot!

I didnt mind August Fair but i just wasnt confident of it getting in from out there & Doomben 1000m 1st up isnt where you wanna be guessing if your jock can get it in.
Dint mind some of your other ones though.
