Betfair In The West
The judgement for Betfair’s High Court proceedings challenging the validity of Western Australian legislation which prohibits Western Australians wagering with a betting exchange and requires wagering operators to obtain approval from the Minister for Racing and Gaming before they can publish Western Australian race fields is to be handed down by the Court on Thursday 27 March 2008 at 10:15am.
Should the decision go the way of Betfair, Perth punters could be a step closer to be able to open an account and bet legally with the exchange.

If the decision goes in favour of Betfair could then the people of W.A. litigate against their government because they were prohibited (illegally?) from betting with a licensed agency?
Just a thought... |

I don't think they could for past restriction, but they certainly could lobby independently against future restriction citing the High Court Judgement.

You might have a great day there Shaun!
This decision is important as it could have a domino effect on the other states. I think it was the SA Government rumoured to possibly follow WA's lead. |

It is a very important decision in my opinion, if it goes against Betfair, it will open the door for other States to implement restrictions - all the knockers will be lining up.
If Betfair are victorious, we might just get Perth races to bet on, and more harness meetings eventually. Not to mention the addition of all those Perth punters like Partypooper and Shaun. It can only be good for turnover
