Question Does Moonee Valley Form hold up?

I don't have any statistics to support my "gut feel" but it doesn't seem that Moonee Valley form holds up at other tracks, especially Flemington.

Is it because most MV form is at their night meetings and the class of race is lower than the normal Saturday meeting. Also with MV being a tighter track horses seems to be more track specialists.

Are there other tracks were the form doesn't hold up?

Hi Try Try Again,

It has a lot to do with the different Strathyr Suface, the tight cambers and the short straight. Indeed it is a completely different track to Flemington with it's wide cambers and long straight.

I'll often disregard a poor performance at the Valley if a horse has shown a liking for Flemington or another such track.

I generally only back horses if they have performed admirably at the Valley previously.

Thanks TheSchmile,

Have to agree it would pay to forgive a poor performance at MV if the horse has shown a liking for today's racetrack.

Maybe we can forgive Chile Express (Flem R8#1) on Saturday who finished 9 of 13 at MV last start (24/11/12) after placing 2nd to Lord Brazil at Flemington at its previous start. It is now 4th up from a spell and should be fit.

I reckon that skewiff results at MV have a lot to do whether it's a day or night meeting - personally I wouldn't touch the night meetings there with a barge pole, the same with Canterbury, but have no such reservations with MV day meets.

That said it is very much a horses for courses track, so if you find one that goes ok there it can be worth following.

The Sportsman formguide lists each horses night racing stats, which I always check before investing.

The horse General Truce has a superb record at night at the Valley for instance,
Placed 4 from 4 tries with 2 wins to boot.

Whilst the tracks each have very different characteristics, the winners aren't mutually exclusive. BELCENTRA won by 6 lengths at the Valley then two weeks later won by 6 lengths in a Listed race at Flemington.
