Ferguson's FA fury

Thursday December 30 2004

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has described the Football Association disciplinary system as "flawed and immoral".

While United have yet to make a final decision against whether to contest a charge of violent conduct levelled against Wayne Rooney, Ferguson believes they are in a no-win situation..

Rooney faces a three-match ban for shoving his hand into the face of Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim on Boxing Day. Ben Haim has also been charged with improper conduct after the incident at Old Trafford.

Ferguson said: "The violent conduct charge bemuses me because every man and his dog would agree it was not violent conduct.

"If it is violent conduct why are they charging Ben Haim? I can't understand it.

"If it is violent conduct, Ben Haim should not be charged. He is being charged so they therefore believe he is guilty of diving and bringing the game into disrepute."

Ferguson said: "It was no more than a push in the face, there was no swing of the arm or anything like that.

"The system is completely flawed.

"The problem for us now is we can't really appeal because we are not allowed to be represented. It is a closed section. So therefore they are telling you, 'don't bother appealing, you are not going to win anyway'.

"As we are approaching 2005, that seems to be unfair and immoral."

Well it is official Rooney will miss 3 matches. If any of you have seen it was a joke. Tal Ben Haim IMHO is the only player who should have been charged over this incident. He took a dive (plain and simple) bringing the game into disrepute. The decision is a disgrace, and I view it as an embarassment to English football. There is no way in hell what Rooney did could be considered violent conduct, sure he pushed him but it was not violent.

Rooney's absence may cost Man U dearly over the comming weeks as they are facing Middlesbrough away, Tottenham at home and Liverpool away.

NOT HAPPY JAN

this doesn't really matter. he's scored 2 goals for man u this season in EPL, he's also missed a penalty. I'll admit, he can come out with good performances, like against Fenerbahce with 3 goals on his debut.

answer this to me though.. has he ever scored an important goal for man u???
sure, he scored 3 against fenerbahce but they won 6-2 so with or without him they'd have won. he also scored when they beat newcastle 3-1, again - doesn't matter. his other goal came against Arsenal, but it was in the last minute so no big deal as they were winning anyhow.

believe me, Man U can live without this guy. he's a spoilt brat. who does he think he is going around being a tough guy to players too intelligent to retaliate. i agree, that Tal Ben Haim is an idiot for reacting that way and he only made a fool of himself.

rooney won't be missed. Believe me, he's overrated.
