I think they are worked out in a similar way to the AAP neurals with a lot of different things factored in. One thing that I know for sure. Quite a bit of the rating is based on the horse's best career run, not it's most recent run. That means that you sometimes get horses which rate on top despite being in seemingly poor form. Does lend to some good wins that way though. I love the Unitab rtgs. I always mark off the 100 raters for every race. I certainly don't bet on them all, but I ALWAYS take them into account.
