Default Quinella Help needed

I seem to be missing something and I need some help! Today I had the following NSW TAB quinella - Hawkesbury Race 2 No.1, 4 & 10 stand outs with the field (9 starters). As it turns out thats the way they finished. I thought that I should be paid for two wins i.e. 1 & 4 and 4 & 1 but was only paid for one combination........where am I wrong?
Secondly how much should the bet have cost? I would be pleased to get all the advice that I can before I go into bat.

So how much did your ticket cost?
And the value of your individual units?

Why would you have had an exotic on that race, just looking at the odds on the race the 1 looked the winner and any exotic was going to pay zilch anyhow.

Lets forget about the whys & wherefores of the selections! The question was How many divies should be paid. If not two...why not?

You should get paid once -- a quinella is for first and second, in either order. And if the #4 came first and #1 came second, the divy would be exactly the same.

One would normally be paid twice for a Quinella .
In your instance , do you think you may have accidently placed an exacta bet instead .
