Another thought...

Does anyone use price filters and or recommend them?

The easiest way id to add 1 to the number of selections per race and use that figure as Your MINIMUM acceptable price
i.e 4 selections = Minimum $5

I find price filters can make a significant difference if one can find the right balance..

I use them on a stratergy at the moment & it improve the systems SR dramatically.

The tricky bit is finding the filters most suitable to ones stratergy that actually improves the exsisting system..

Example.
Bet the 3rd Fav to win, if the...
Fav is <=2.60
&
2nd Fav is >=4.00

The 3rd fav would be big odds under this scenerio.

In the scenario you give Bhagwan I would be inclined to take the second and third favourite and maybe the fourth. 1 unit on the second fav and 2 units on both the third and fourth.

Price filters cna be useful.

I use them with a couple of loss recovery staking plans on systems that are very high strike rates. By removing the poorer selections using a maximum price I can make a good profit.

My maximum price on those systems is $3. I won't bet anything over $3. Its a bit against what most people say but see what works for you. By sticking to under $3 I can hit approx 60%-80% winners over a month (betting for the win).

Other systems require a minimum price set of $10. These systems are targetted at the longer priced horses though and are looking for the upset win.

It all depends on what type of system you are using.

Very interesting points I'm trialling a couple of potentials at the moment and although they show a profit regardless of price it seems if a price filter is engaged the profits improve quite a bit.

The tricky part is getting on. The price fluctuates quite a bit just before the jump. So my price is between $2-$8 but even at $1.5-$9 it still shows a healthy profit...

Heres a method for those who like the concept of value betting & their selections vary in price.

The method actually urges you to seek value when used.

Using $500.00 bank betting on betfair or fixed price bookie

Bet $10.00 if prc 5.10-10.00+

Bet $7.00 if prc 3.20-5.00

Bet $4.00 if prc 1.10-3.10

I feel it can improve ones returns without having to resort to progressive betting.

It is also more fun to use than straight level stakes betting.

I have found that it works well for me & one does not get that anxt feeling one sometimes gets when a short price horse is loaded up for the promise of a low return.

I have found the returns are far superiour to level stakes betting.

Give it a try on some past results .
