Hi oldtimers,
Thanks but I,ll pass on this one.
Though I am sure someone will be interested.

They were talking about it on that PA forum so I,m sure you,ll be able to sell it.
As I recall Fizzgig was very interested.

Cheers and good luck .

Default all up place plan

thanks for that Darky, i am interested in place betting, last year i thought i hit the holy grail. I devised a system that i trialled from Aug 3 2010 to Dec 24 2010
there were 261 bets with 180 wins. highest place div was 2-80 lowest was 1-60
total return on a $1 stake was $359-70 good but could be improved upon.

I did a recheck using a 5% stake of bank balance with the following results

Aug 3 2010 Bet no 1 $15 Bank bal = $300
Sep 15 104 $100 $2100
Oct 8 134 $192 $4288
Oct 17 154 $603 $13339
Oct 23 162 $1051 $23449
Nov 2 173 $2080 $35927
Nov 22 200 $10685 $129410
and so on but this became obviously unworkable the stake on Dec 24
would have been $97060 and the balance $2,115,923.i will continue on next posting

Default all up place betting

posting no 2. This seemed a better way to go so i opened an acc with unitab and vic tab and nsw tab this way i could divide the stakes and not lower the divs etc. i started actual punting
at Flem on Jan 1st the first three bets were ok then the wheels fell off i was placing my bets too early ie 10 min to go and i was on the wrong horses this was bad so i waited until 2 min to go and still i was missing out, the changes in the divs and the pool totals were dismantling my holy grail.During the
5 month trial period i was checking the results every night after the last race etc. This was ok because betting was finalised but trying to hit the right horse in real time was useless , even betting past advertised starting time was no good the divs were still changing .
Anyway the rules i used were as follows , I only bet on vic racing 7 days a week
Rule 1 Must be 8 starters or more
Rule 2 Place fav must be 1-50 or better- no joint place favs
Rule 3 Selection is the clear second PLACE fav-no joint 2nd place favs
please note i am ignoring the race 2nd fav i am only interested in the PLACE 2nd fav in the place pool, this could be the race fav or 3rd or 4th even. like all systems ithit a bad run in Jan and i havent looked at it since i did my lolly'

Thanks Miksik40,
I love playing around with these things.
Usually I check these Spot Play methods with a reputable free rating service like r+s.

Cheers

Hi miksik40. Welcome aboard.

I don't think you can look at it the way you are as the place markets just wouldn't handle big bets like your saying about November and December. Your horse would start 1.00 place fave if you're betting those sorts of amounts.

I know Betfair place markets are pretty skimpy when it comes to volume/pools but something like that is easily botable (on a betfair bot). At least you would have a guaranteed return should your bet win.

I'm not much of a place bettor (or win bettor for that matter ) but I think you may be able to get fixed odds on the place markets with some bookies.

Sorry if I missed it but are those stats for all races or just metro, Saturdays or everyday?

Miksik40, yes I also thought on several occasions that the Holy Grail was in sight, (Im an avid place bettor)

only to fail (again) I tried a fairly aggressive staking plan instead of my usual $100 bets, so after a good run I'm almost up to 4 figures, but soon realised that my plan that had been profitable for 4 years + was going the other way, SR exactly the same, didn't take too long to realise that those $800+ bets were affecting the dividend to an extent that I was now losing.

I reverted back to my $100 bets (max $200) and the plan recovered and I'm still using it.

Try this, use your usual criteria for your selection, and watch the market to 1 min b4 the off , if it's a bet @1min. back it but USING SPORTSBET BEST TOTE (as available)

Or you could have a look at BF SP, and see how that would have fared compared to your usual Tote, I would say that it probably beats an individual Tote, but I would be very surprised if it beats BEST TOTE.

On the plus side as The Ocho says you could use a BOT and make life much easier

Good luck!

Default All up place plan

Hi Ocho, thanks for your interest and reply to my long drawn out post. As I stated in the first post the method I used was very basic but reliable ,showing a good strike rate and a level stakes profit over 5 mths. In the second post I explained how i tried to improve it by using a 5% of bank balance.it did improve
the returns but proved to be too high a %.because it would have stifled the place pool and the actual dividend.it turned out to be a stupid idea. But then in January as i said i was continually missing the correct selection so i spat the dummy because when it came to real time placing my bet the odds were changing up till jump time and sometimes after the race had started which was odd i thought. In answer to your questions those stats were for 7 days a week in Victoria only i hardly ever bet any other state. There were lots of days when there wasnt any selection due to .
[1] less than 8 runners
[2] sometimes the place fav was less than 1-50
[3] sometimes there were joint first favs or joint second fav, either way it became a no race
It was a good idea that stood the test of time for 5mths there is no doubt i will try and get round the timing of placing a bet id be silly not to'
cheers to all on this great forum miksik40

One more thing miksik40, did you make $98 in 5 months ($359 return-261 bets) or $359 clear profit during your trial?
