Betfair's response is "we are aware that some users use api products to circumvent the below minimum".
The problem is their api accepts these bets, users are not circumventing anything. It's built into their api platform. Instead of mass waring users, they should simply change the api code to reject below minimum. But they won't, as too many users need to bet below minimum to green up, lay the field, dutch bet the field etc etc.

Also, don't be fooled with the speed of bet placement. Placing bets from Australia is noticably slower than the UK. I'm doing almost everything remotely from Ireland now and this was the first thing I noticed.

Hi - I'm Mert (the guy with the droning English voice on the JetBet video) and I thought I'd say hello.
Thanks for your comments on the software - I'm really interested in this less than Betfair minimum stake issue as it hasn't come up very much at all from what we've seen. One of my colleagues has been in the industry for over 10 years and has only heard of one or two instances, and that was pretty blatant - the guy had about 1,000 bets each at a penny. Even then Betfair didn't close his account, just slapped his wrist...... so is it more stringently enforced down your way or was it the UK dishing out the warnings? I know you've got your own servers (in Hobart is it?) but don't know if they are policed separately. And if there are any questions on our stuff just give me a shout. Cheers Mert |

I believe it is the Aussie accounts.

Welcome Mert, good to have you here.
I received a warning for betting under the minimum about 2 years ago. The problem may have been the cancelling of the original bet I think, as that is what a lot of posters were saying. IE: Place Lay bet for $5 @ $1.01. Up that stake to $6. Betfair then shows 2 bets, 1 for $5 and 1 for $1. Then adjust the $1 bet up to what price you would like. Then cancel the $5 bet. Presto, on for under the minimum.

I know that all software that place bets below minimum do a similar trick but only shows 1 bet made.
I have only been using betfair for a few years and use a different product and have never had this issue but my bets have been mixed some over some under but a lot were under when i first started. |

I have made a huge number of bets under the limit over the years testing & what not, but at the same time have made equally as many over, so I think this is probably the trick isnt it - if you continually bet under the limits with very few or none over you will get flagged?

At that stage I was having most of my bets under with probably 10-20% of them over, perhaps that was the problem.
I should have kept the emails.

We have a really good working relationship with the Betfair development team so I'll raise this next time I see them.
Because some of our stuff is system based, I personally encourage small bets whilst testing out various strategies before committing larger stakes. We've just done something for a guy in the UK and I know for a fact he's been using 10p per stake, at least 10 times a day for a month without trouble (yet!) because he wants to try a load of different settings and that to me seems a pretty sensible way of doing things. I'll let you know how I get on with them...... |
