(2) BEL AIR 3200M placegetter in NZ, great win last start to win in record time over 2600M.
(1) ROMAN ARCH ran on well last start over 2600M behind Bel Air. (12) TRANSFERRAL recent form OK, bred to run the distance. (10) LARROCHA in fine form of late. Has the polish of Tony McEvoy.

Tell me how you can pick Pantani...
Last 3 Starts... Beaten 9.8l, 22.3l and 13.6l (over slow, good and dead)... 3 wins from 35 starts, career place strike rate of less than 30%... Sometimes I wonder why I even bother with this punting caper! LB |

Well, he did win the SA Derby at the same track 2 years ago, and he was also a winner over the distance having won the Duke of Norfolk at Flemington just 2 months ago, carrying 6 kg more than he had today.
Having said all that, no I certainly didn't back him either. I didn't bet at all in the race because it just looked too hard for my liking. Is it just me or do there seem to be a higher % of upset results in big races in SA than there are in other states? By the way, racecaller Terry McAuliffe did actually pick him 4th today. He picked 2-14-1-5 and they came home 5-16-2-1, so he got 3 of the first 4. [ This Message was edited by: sportznut on 2004-05-17 16:58 ] |

Hi Sportz,
I remember those wins in particular the Duke of Norfolk wherein I was impressed enough to place a bet on him in the Chairman in Sydney. But after that it just got worse. I have a trifecta system for 3200m races wherein I put every horse that has won at 2500m and beyond in for third selection. So, I knew he was around. I just cannot get over such strong form reversals as this. It's not like he was running 11 and 12 beaten 5 or 6 lengths. I would just like to know how you pick these winners???? Cheers, Luckyboy |
