Hi here my Aussie friends.
You guys (and gals) are real quite about Starcraft racing this weekend, compared to here in “Nu Ziland” (home of the Bledisloe Cup). For those that don’t know, Starcraft is running tomorrow in the Mudgway Stakes ($200k 1400m race). He worked on the plough for 2 rounds at half pace on Tuesday. Yesterday he did a round on the course (dead) for a ‘look’ then worked in from the 1400m on the 2nd round. Leith Innes gradually increased the speed and was timed from the 1000m in 1:04.10 and the 600m in 35. Newham said he travelled across the ditch well and has only lost 6kg in weight. On paper Starcraft looks the one to beat with Kings Chapel, Balmuse and Irish Rover thrown into the mix. Lets hope he doesn’t lie down like your infamous rower the lovely and very sexy Sally Robbins, eh? Good luck and may the punting gods shine on you Andrew |

I am a bit surprised how quiet this has been on here aswell a horse which has so much hype surrounding it starting back on a Cox Plate campaign. I can't wait to see the big fella back and with a bit of luck he will go on and trounce everything he comes across.

I would not back Starcraft with bad money today. He has had to travel, adapt to new surrounds in a very short time(different water etc.)has a new jockey, the distance is unsuitable(IMO)and he has never won first up!If you must bet in this race I would suggest Kings Chapel and Balmuse. No one knows if Starcraft will come up this campaign.Look at Dance Hero!I would not imagine the trainer taking him over there just for a run,but if he were mine I would be happy just to see him finish the race off nicely and finish in the placings, not have a gut buster first up.

Purpleheart, I concur with that fact that Starcraft has had to travel and get used to new conditions. According to the trainer he has put on the weight he lost and is about 90% fit. I could be wrong, but didn't he win a Group 3 race in January 2004 in a fresh-up state? Anyway, Kings Chapel, whilst a very good race (win) and does not race well in tight quarters. Balmuse is a real up-and-comer and has a stunning turn of foot. I personally won't bet this race because there is too much risk (variables) about it. But good luck to those who do. One thing that perplexes though is why did they bring Starcraft to NZ? For an 'easy' black type win? Happy punting |

The only horse I gave a chance of beating Starcraft was Miss Potential that was only if everything went right for her and he did alot wrong. Guess what he didn't do alot wrong did he what a horse the best I have seen.

Starcraft just won the Mudgway Stakes Group 1 1400m race in 1:22.56 (Firm track). He crossed from barrier 12 of 16 to sit mid field. Was ~8-10 lengths off leaders (Kalamata and Miss Potential) at turn with 2 furlongs to run. Stormed down outer with a massive turn of foot to score by 1/2 length. Miss Potential and Kalamata fought out 2nd and 3rd respectively after both disputing the lead. The rest of the NZ horses weren't in the hunt. They aren't good enough over the sprint distances at the end of the day.
Starcraft will stay in NZ for the Stoney Bridge 18 September and then the $1,000,000 Kelt Capital Stakes |
