Hi all
I would just like to ask how many of u win on country racing, is there any so called value in it. What interested me is i found it very difficult to win on weekdays (Country racing) than Weekend racing (Metro). I also found out that value of some runners will suddenly disappear when they jump, and usually the odds offered are so closed to their true odds (winning percentages) one more thing is that why are there no any professional punters or tipping services works in weekdays. Any comments or thoughts are extermely appreciated

Cheers

Hi,
There is a limit to how much form one can do. The racing industry operates seven days a week but do its participants want to work seven days a week?

Country racing often has poor bookmaker betting rings betting to very high percentages.

As you have pointed out about the tote - the "value" disappears. The tote markets are often just too thin.

Cheers.

I actually do most of my betting on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and can usually find plenty of value - in fact I usually find it easier than Saturday. When I used to work at the TAB most of the big punters did bet mid-week although the bet value was lower due to the lower pools. Some things I have learnt about mid week betting:
1. Do not bet in very small TAB pools (I regard $10000 as the minimum but 20000+ is preferable) as they are too volatile.
2. If you are a "big" punter then you need to make sure your bet size is appropriate for the pool size - you can't bet as much in a $20,000 pool as you can in a $200,000 pool.
3. If betting with TAB then wait until the last possible moment to bet to make sure your bet price is still available.
4. Be very wary if one TAB is showing much better odds than the other 2 on your selection - you can be pretty sure that the punters will plunge it if they notice the discrepancy (eg. today there was a horse showing about $10 on both Tabcorp & Unitab but $25+ on NSW with about 1 minute to jump when some clown on Sky told everyone it was great value on NSW. With 30 seconds to go NSW had come in to $14 - at jump it was down to $7.50 on NSW but out to about $11 on Unitab/Tabcorp - if you jumped at the $25 looking for value you would have been disappointed (especially since it lost!).
5. You will generally need to look at more than the race form for betting on many midweek races. You get a lot of first starters or horses resuming from long spells which can be great value if you know what to look for. Some country trainers have great records on their home tracks and can give some great priced winners.

Anyway best of luck.

Thanks for that becareful
I am concern about the latest time to bet with the TAB my limit is 1-2 mins before they jump. How about you, and i would like to know when you are framing your own market or considering the ture winning chances say for expmple R5/1 you think that the ture winning odds will be 3/1 or 4.00 (25%), say whatever betting agents you are with whether bookies or various TAB will u bet this runner only if there is a fair margin with your ratings say 5% that means 4/1 or 5.00 (25%-5%). I usually bet with TAB at past time and after hearing from u guys i keen to go to tracks on saturday to bet with the glorious bookies. I have been betting with for about 3 months a very few scenario i would to share with u guys and hope that someone else there can give me some ideas. The first one is when a horse firm up in the betting ring bookies try to laid their bets with others, do nowadays bookies don't have the guts to accept the bets and many punters i mean not on track that is Tab odds haven't been trimmed up yet seem to know the information or good oil as well as i can hear all bookies that accept telephone bets will rapidly reiceve calls. The second one is when the bookie risk a runner the perfect example recently is from 13/07/2002 (Sat) R4/2 Trillion Delight that open at about $11 then trimmed to $9 before they jump. Is that they know something we don't know or as Neil always mention that in long term they will be the winner and it seem to me that many punters would like to bet horses which is favourite or fancied with them when they offer you better odds.
Any comments or opinions are appreciated

Cheers

Dolly,

Forget the exotics midweek unless it's a metro meeting, the tri / quinella pools are useless.

There is still some great value there if you pick out the feature races for the day. E.G. Class 6 and Open handicaps. Often horses that are out of form at metro tracks can pinch a win at good odds against average opposition. You need to look at the horses performances over higher class races, not it's recent two or three starts.

Unless you go to the training tracks and barrier trials, I would stay away from maidens and lower class races, it's like finding a needle in a haystack. There is way too much hype and hence poor odds about maidens from top stables at country tracks.

dolly007?
James here, shakin but not stirrin!

Agree with EI. And be selective with your races. The higher the class (race) the better. Watch for those horses doin OK (but not winnin) on Sat, that come back to midweek.

Dolly007,

On midweek races I almost never confirm my bet until the last horse is loaded (ie. about 10 seconds before jump) except if I am betting with bookie. Most of my bets are with TAB via Internet.

I work out my own price on my selections in the race and only bet if TAB price exceeds this by about 20% or more (to allow for errors in my system and the price changes after jump). eg. If I evaluate a horse as a 10% chance of winning then my price is $10 - I will bet if TAB price is $12 or higher.

Good luck.
