howdy,
after watching the 14 win run of the Englishman in the UK forum and after taking part in the NSW TAB Survivor contest, I am thinking of putting on a SURVIVOR contest on in this forum to test our nerve

heres a few of my ideas and prelim. rules for such a contest - let me know if you have any ideas...

obviously everyone has to start on day 1. No latecomers. I am thinking of making next Monday day 1.
Since many of us are likely to bomb out on day 1 - to avoid boredom I thought I would allow two parts to the contest - so on day 1 you get two selections, one win selection and a place selection - can be different if you like.
We will see who can put together the longest win run and the longest place run.

If your win selection loses, then you are out of the win part of the contest. If your place bet loses you are out of there as well.
A place selection must pay a return at the NSW TAB for it to be a winning selection - a no third dividend result is a losing place result.

Price obviously becomes irrelevent, but for the record I will keep the winners stats going using NSW TAB results.

You can bet on any form of racing but it must be a race meeting covered by the NSW TAB. So you can pick a greyhound race for your win selection, a trots horse for your place - it matters not.

Each day I will post a thread for the contest selections, you must make your selections publicly to the forum by noon of that day. The next morning I will post who bombed out and who is still live along with any relevent stats.

You only get the one selection per day in each part whilst still alive. Thus you cant have a selection in the morning, win and have another in the afternoon.

cant think of anything else at this point -
let me know if you are interested...

hopefully there is someone here who can do as well as the Englishman

see ya

Sounds great Every Topic. I have run a few Survivors myself over a couple of years now between some friends. Her are the rules we play under, and have found to be very competitive. Take the golden thread out of these if you wish to create your own deal, or copy, it's up to you... Cheers...

The concept behind the Survivor Series is to choose winning selections. This is important as heavy penalties occur for selection errors. The object of this game is to Survive by collecting as many Lives as you can, so you can have a buffer to cover yourself for the inevitable placed selection, or worse, an unplaced selection. You start the game with 4 Lives, and hope by the end of 3 months you have lives remaining. Once you lose all your lives, you are eliminated from the game. At the end of the (you decide) month period, the player with the highest total lives in their kitty will be declared the winner, and take Crown as the King or Queen of Survivor.

RULES:

This event will run for (You decide) months.
Your selections must be recorded prior to the jump of the first race (R1) on that particular meeting.
Only Official NSW Tote results and dividends will be used.
Upon joining this competition, each player will receive 4 lives.
A winning selection will receive 1 Life.
A placed selection will lose 1 Life.
An unplaced selection will lose 2 Lives.
8 Selections are required each month.
These selections must be on a Saturday, Metropolitan meeting at either Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast(accepted as Metro), Adelaide, or Perth.
Each selection not placed will be treated as an unplaced selection, and therefore lose 2 Lives.
If a selection is scratched, no default will occur, providing there are still Saturdays left to select in the month. A scratching on the last Saturday of the month, will default to the highest weighted horse that starts that particular race.
Only after the completion of your 8 selections for the month will you be deemed to have survived or eliminated.
A winner will be declared only after the completion of all players 8 selections for the month.
In the event of a tie, the Crown will be split between the joint winners.
If you are eliminated, the game is ended until the start of the next competition.
If a winner is not found, the Crown will jackpot to the next Series.

thanks for the input Tab Hunter -
I suppose my original intention was to see who could put together the longest streak - you cant do that if you are giving people lives, so I might have to skip the lives idea. Also, I want to give each person two selections - one for a win and one for a place so that in effect you do get two chances whilst you are still in the comp.

IF you have to win your selection to stay alive it adds more pressure and excitement - a run seems to get people interested

The comp will probably be over in a week or so, plenty of time to try again !

I was thinking of starting Monday but with the CUp on Tuesday and lots of juicy fields to select from maybe it might be better to start then - with quality horses to pick from.

thanks for the feedback and may you pick many winners

see ya
