9th race - Retama Park - September 08, 2005

#...Horse..............Win....Place....Show
4 Mr. Question......14.00..9.00.....6.00
8 Five Flags..................12.00....4.80
3 Corp Trip...............................5.40

"MR. QUESTION (won by 3 3/4L) contested the pace while three wide, edged clear inside the half-mile pole, gamely repelled the bid of CORP TRIP in upper stretch then drew away under strong urging."

Looks like the hand brakes were released tonight

Branch Out First start, sat outside leader in crazy speed duel, were 6L in front of field, kicked clear in the straight, only tired last 100m. In Mick Price stable, will win races.

One in a MillionWould love to see this horse draw a barrier. Sat outside Lotteria first up & today raced 3 wide no cover outside the leader in a solid pace. Huge merit. Worth noting the other 2 horses finished last & 2nd last.

Brave, sorry. i've been giving credit to Avenger for tabbing Mr Question. Good job there. He was stepping out of State breds to open company but he handled the jump no problem.

ON A JEUNE - Since winning the Cranbourne Cup LR last year when he drew a middle gate (8/16), this horse has drawn the following barriers. Geelong Cup (16/16); huge run!, Melbourne Cup (18/24), Ballarat Cup (16/18), Open Hcp (2/7 First Up), Open Hcp (10/10), John D Lee LR (15/17), Balaklava Cup LR (15/15). Providing he gets some luck with the marbles this preparation, I think there is alot of upside to his staying potential.

Note: Placed in the South Australian Derby G1 when drawing (15/16).

APPROACH THE BENCH - Finished off last campaign with a placing and then a win in consecutive MW0 races at Moonee Valley. As it stands today, his career stats are 8 starts for 4 wins and 4 placings; (all seconds). Races handy and has great fighting qualities. Yet to be produced this spring but a definite watch!

ASPEN LIGHTS - Good wraps on him before his shocking failure at debut on a heavy track at Bendigo; stewards queried the ride. Wait for him on a good track some time after the carnival.

ADIOS DAPPER GAWLER R6 No.5 (1600m)
Flew home 2 starts ago @ $36 from wide barrier, dissapointing last start 7th in barrier 2, again in 2 this time so maybe would prefer wider (ran 2nd @ Chelt in Jul form Barr 16), still should be nice odds

DREAM BALLAD NEWCASTLE R8 No.8 (1600m)
My bb comments "Goul 2/9 bolted home - awsome turn of foot @ 200m put 4lngths on them inside 50m"

CONSULAR NEWCASTLE R7 No.1 (1400m)
Won last well start and has won 2 of last 4, racing well loves the distsance, drops 5.5kg and has Byrne again.

LA REDOUTE NEWCASTLE R6 No.9 (1400m)
My bb comments were"Brained them in last @ Pt Macquarie (29.08) Follow her all the way !"

KIM PAULINI BELMONT R2 No.4 (1000m)
First Starter ran 3rd recent trial, 4lnghts... bit of a speculation

DOUBLE BAY BELMONT R8 No.10 (1300m)
Was checked 2 starts back when fav, duly salured last start, not best record at Belmont, but has nice ally and 3.5kg weight drop

SPORTIVO BELMONT R2 No.1 (1000m)
Fantasy Stable Hose...so just a specy

LINDHOLME DOOMBEN R7 No.3 (1650m)
Charged home for 3rd at Ipswich on 2/9, extra distance will suit

MANILLA BOY DOOMBEN R3 No.2 (1350m)
Manilla Boy has yet to win a race, having been placed five times in Brisbane city races, including Listed company. If ever this 3YO is going to win a race it will be next start.....??

OCTOBER GREY DOOMBEN R8 No.6 (1200m)
Has two 2nds from two starts, is drawn wide, but has Cahill this time

MATRAS SANDOWNHILLSID R7 No.8 (1600m)
Looking at the better races this spring, was not overly impressive las start so, must go close this time. Drawn wide, but has drawn wide twice previously, so no real concern

VATANA SANDOWNHILLSID R4 No.12 (1800m)
Ran @ Bendigo 11.08.05 - finished well very close, is consistent and has been taken to town. Has S King, drawn well... should be nice E/Way odds
