It is fantastic to see some true gentleman in the racing game. This forum seems to have plenty of them. XPT, sportz, chrome prince just to name a few. (I know there is a lot more and I am sorry not to mention you!)

Just a question. When running a service would many people put customer service as a priority? I recently took on a five day trial of a well known Uk lay service. I have been betting for years but never layed a horse and did it out of curiosity to learn more about betfair. First day a lay tip is given to me at 2.90. I log into betfair and the price is more around 7.40. I am thinking have I missed something? HAs the provider got another way of portraying his expected odds? I send him an email giving my background asking for clarification. I get an abusive email back stating that "if you are an experienced gambler then you should know that odds change and you must be stupid not to know this". I email back saying that the discrepancy was very large and I got the email only 1/2 hour after he sent it. I also asked does he speak to all his clients this way. Another email flashes back stating that my trial is cancelled due to my "stupidity".

Is this anyway to run a service?

Pugnosis,

No, that is not any way to run any business full stop.

If you really were not grasping a legitimate concept, then he could have explained it to you so you understood.

The aggressive reply to a potential client, an overseas one at that, proves that he went straight into attack mode because he knows that what he is supplying is probably misleading (to say the least).

There will always be some people in every industry, but especially racing, who have no idea about customer service, and then wonder why they get no referral business and no income in the end.

Stick with it Pugnosis, the Betfair forums have plenty of stuff there and the people are willing to help genuine people.

You know what, I'd love to see some of our forum members giving tips from the betting ring over the Carnival on channel 7, than some of these journalists.

Journalists are journalists, they are supposed to report facts, nothing else.

It's like a fireman being called to deliver a pizza.

Why not get some pro's who know what value is, and know the horses to give some credible advice.

Or perhaps they'll just stick to a bloke who follows the tote fluctuations and another who picks half the field, and a commentator who thinks everything is "marvellous" and "special" and produces wonderful statistics which are essential to the home viewer like "No horse has started in a Melbourne Cup starting with X".

Glad I had the information, otherwise I might have done my money.

Never seen any journo say: The percentages are too high, I'd give this race a miss and only have an interest bet, there's better value in the next race with a very good horse at odds.

As far as I'm aware, it wasn't just to get around unnoticed

Agree with you 100% Chrome, they treat the viewers the same way the tabs treat their customers, like idiots.

Thanks Dr Ron, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this.

They treat ALL viewers like once a year 50cent punters.

I'd like to do an expose like the "Upsize Me" or "Bowling for Columbine" type.

It would be great to expose how little these "professionals" know and how wrong and misleading they are.

I doubt they give me the time of day as soon as some curly questions were asked: like

"what's your longterm profit on turnover?"

or

"why did you say this horse was value, when it had already been backed in some 30% less than the bookmakers opening price?"

or

"do you understand that a tote is a fluctuating pool and not a fixed price, therefore; what does "represents value on the tote" really mean, when the price will be probably 30% worse when the poor mug goes to collect the winnings, that you said were value 30 minutes ago?"

IN their eyes value on the tote means its currently better than the bookies have it, what they should say is when all you mugs listening to me go and put your money on it wont quite be value anymore.
