Default Just wondering

Hi!
I receive regular offers for upgrading a rating software , which I haven't used for years.
Many on this forum use it and good luck to them.
What puzzles me is this, every time I receive these offers it tells me how profitable the software is, what great new selection methods were added etc.
So I was more than surprised with last week's offer, saying "some users stated they can't afford the full amount of upgrade", (we are talking here a few hundred bucks not thousands), hence an offer was made to pay in installments!!!
I don't know about you, but it really made me think, why on earth would I buy an upgrade to something that doesn't even provide enough profit to pay for itself?
So what is it? the worst sales pitch I heard in a long time, or a rare outburst of honesty?
Cheers
