I think you got this upside down moeee, you don't choose your friends, you become friends through mutual interests and compatibility.

Yes you can, just make sure whom you upset.
If you don't speak your mind you never make an enemy.
I prefer to speak up, and stuff the consecvenses.
Not having friends sometimes comes from deep down.
Because you don't want to get involved, you subconsciously alienate people. (one can of course be of a natively nasty disposition too)

We are getting into philosophy here, not in the realm of this forum.
