I method that I find works pretty well especially with the dogs is that I will choose a 2nd or 3rd favourite especially if it is out of a good box. I will then put 3 trifecta's on.

1 - 2,3,4,5,6 - 2,3,4,5,6
2,3,4,5,6 - 1 - 2,3,4,5,6
2,3,4,5,6 - 2,3,4,5,6 - 1 Total $30 for .50c

This means that the dog I choose only has to place and I will get the trifecta provided that the 2 dogs I don't have don't come in the top 3 which doesn't happen too often and by not taking the favourite as the standout it increases my chances of picking up a decent return.

This method can seem to work ok for thoroughbred races provided the field isn't too large.

If there is a standout favourite in a race, I will take the fav. straight out to win eg. 1 - 2,3,4,5,6 - 2,3,4,5,6 $10 for a half unit but I usually don't swap the order around because if the fav does win the dividend usually isn't great enough to cover a $30 outlay. If the fav loses, I'm only losing $10.

Another small tip. I find for Sydney greyhounds, if you find a dog that has been running poorly at Wentworth Park but has been taken back to a provincial meeting like Singleton, they do win quite often and sometimes in the past I have had them come in at as much as $40 for the win. Very rarely are they short. My only theory for this is that the trainer is trying to give it a confidence boost.

Good Luck and good punting

PS Has anyone got a reliable punting method for Casino or Lismore dog races as the straightless track makes backing a winner much more difficult. Quite often I find the best dog doesn't win.
