Recite these numbers like your multiplication tables when you were a kid.
Average winning price for various betting services.....S.P.6.79
UNITAB 8.18
SuperTab 8.24
N.SW.Tab8.35
I.A.S. 8.59
Austote 9.71
and thus betfair would be knocking around the same price as Austote+I presume.
Yours NICK.

It's based on Norfolk Island. Another bloodsucking company who probably won't contribute a cent to Australian Racing because they are based in a Territory of Australia.
Look, I'm all for us getting better prices but eventually these guys are costing the industry that we love money.
I'll admit I'm a hypocrite, I have accounts with Betfair, SportingBet & Sports Acumen but when my friends who own horses ask me about it I feel some guilt.

Norherly writes, "...but when my friends who own horses ask me about it I feel some guilt."

A tear came to my eye too. Poor wretched souls having been thrown on the scrap heap of race-horse ownership.

Perhaps we could get one of the major election contenders to implement welfare reform for race-horse owners as a polictical manifesto. After all, who else will pay the race-horse owners bills (including petrol for the mercedes) if not damn fool punters.

The very last thing we want to do is empower punters with choice in searching for value in their wagering dollar. In fact I have a better idea - lets increase the TAB take to over 20% and eliminate every other betting alternative. That way we can all eat cake.

Just remember that you can't have one without the other. We need owners so we can bet on their horses, or would you rather go to the casino and bet on the horse game there, where you have just as much chance of winning as you would if you were playing the pokies.

I'll keep using the Corporate bookmakers as I'll do what is best for me, but at least be reasonable enough to admit that we need each other.

I have some sympathy for the owners especially the little battler BUT ABSOLUTELY NONE FOR THE RACE CLUBS who have been treating the average punter like a mug for more years than even I care to remember.
Now when something good like BETFAIR or AUSTOTE comes along they are whinging like theres no tomorrow..
Cheers.

that's better. My friends who have owned horses are not rich just people who love horse racing and the best horses out of the lot they have had are, Cosmic Strike (1st G3 Gilgai Stks & 3rd G1 Salinger) and Outside The Square (won about 6 in SA).

I hate the TAB's with a passion because of the way they treat punters. In respect to race clubs, well I haven't been around racing long enough to comment. But I do get annoyed with all the crap on SKY trying to scare people about Betfair. It's not like racing hasn't been corrupt for a 100 years anyway.

Not sure about the exact details, but quoted in the Guiness Book of Records, is a story about some "lucky" punter in the uk who backed a 7 horse yankee (multiple bets, inc. accumalators) all won at Mammoth odds, he was due a payout from that "LOCAL FRIENDLY SP BOOKIE" running into millions.

What he got was a pitance because of limits (in the small print) on doubles, trebles,& 4,5,6,7 somes.

I think we can definitly do without them!!
