WATC handicapper has said that Northerly could expect no less than 64kg for next Saturday's welter.

The last horse to carry that sort of weight (and win) was Detonator who carried 65kg to victory in a Belmont welter way back in 1978.

Subsequent to his trial run Northerly has had a hard hit at Belmont. Reported Fred pleased with the gallop.

Not done the form yet but has to be huge ask for Northerly to win, which I wouldn't think is Fred's intention. Might be good value race though, with no doubt sentimental money going onto the champ.

Yeah it really depends if he is going around to win or just for the run. either way if he is 9/2 I wont be able to help myself having a little nibble.
