Take out on First Fours (NSW TAB) is 22.5% and on Pick the Margins(NSW FOOTYTAB) it is a whopping 25%. It is very hard to beat an edge of this significance. Quadrellas should pay a lot more than an allup because the pool is only getting taxed once (20%). A four-way all up will be taxed four times on each win bet (15% or close to). Remember a runner that pays $4.0 for a win is really about a $5 or 20% win chance. So an all up with four $4 chances should pay $625 ($5x$5x$5x$5) not $256 ($4x$4x$4x$4) according to "true" odds. Hence quadrella dividends should pay about twice the all up as a general rule of thumb.

Here's an interesting page:
http://www.betting-ring.com/australia.html I think it's probably way out of date by now but it shows something that I didn't know and that is that various TABs charge different commissions on the same bets. Quinella varying from 14.25 at NSWTAB to 20% at WA Tab and even more at the NZTab according to this article. KV |
