![]() Onya' KV,
I read this thread but i have little to say that would help, so learning from previous "mistakes" i have stayed as silent as can be. I know Gungadin was talking about writing some bet placing software so maybe he could incorporate something into that to help you out - auto seek best price from a list of websites - sorta thing. Similarly, the Poms have an advertised bet placement telephone service where they can source best price - last minute should you be unable to place the bet yourself. Barring some revelation to help you, their might be a business opportunity in that for you! I don't think that's exactly what you're looking for though is it? Sorry can't help more Best of luck ![]() Last edited by iamcool : 23rd July 2005 at 03:48 PM. |

![]() As far as I know (ain't that far) the best way yo score a goal on place betting is to use NSW,VIC & QLD Tabs and also IAS. Very clumsy but the only way. If you're chasing best place price of the three states I don't think it would ever happen cause they'd go broke.
On a different note (on a different forum) I read Yuckman has beaten us all. Rest in peace. We'll all see him later.

![]() TwoBets, are you suggesting splitting the stake across all totes? IAS pays Unitab anyway so no need to use them.
I do actually place half of my bet with Sportsbet @ best of NSW & Supertab, and the other half with Unitab, this gets me close to what I'm after, but I'm sure some outfit gives best of 3 totes, I mean they can do it for the win can't they (maxi-divi) An alternative is I suppose to opt for fixed price but that pretty well ties you up sat in front of the comp all day!! KV, hope you felt better after you concluded your "other" obligations!!!! hee hee! PS Re: longshots, nope don't back em anymore with Sportingbet, get the full price elsewhere! |

![]() I think this might come down to what you're chasing. If you're looking at the longer shots then place betting is more predictable. I'm one of those fools who chase place divs on favourites(oh no! I'll go broke). This is a real problem as what is a $1.50 div at jump ends up paying $1.00 .......maybe! Covering all bases gets me those stupid returns when a hot favourite pays $1.30 to win & $1.90 the place.

![]() TwoBets, my place plan over nearly 5 years ave divi= $1.64, so all pretty well fancied runners.
The first 2 years were at supertab divies only, the rest as I outlined b4, using Sportsbet, half= best of 2, the other half at unitab, which DEFINITLY showed an advantage, so I guess the real figure would be close to $1.70. My thinking here is the amount of times that 2 totes are paying $1.04, and the other $1.20-30 or even more. Trying to guess right up to the off (as you appear to be doing is just "TO HARD" I reckon you would be better just splitting the stake over 3 or even 4 totes and settling for the average! But as a fellow place better you have my attention, if you want to trade ideas, my e-mail is lumbasakabayo@hotmail.com |

![]() partypooper, IAS don't pay UNiTAB divis, they're paying the middle divi(plus a fraction) of the 3 totes, for the 3 codes(including the Cannington dogs!). Win, Place and the exotics.

![]() Another way to spread the risk of low payers , is to amortise the bet amount over all 3 TABs for the same runner.
That way , one can lay all their bets at once , good for busy punters who do not wish to sit in front of the screen all day.

![]() Hi KV!! as far as I can see, your original question is still not answered. How to know when best bookie odds will be better than highest tote div??? Or vice versa. Simple.
Don't bet favoured horses at odds under about 5 or 6 to one!! It's really difficult to tell if they'll firm or drift or diverge. Look at longer priced nags at all times (and go for the Maxidiv) as with these horses you get better Totes 99% of the time. The reason is simple; bookies reckon we'll be happy with 50-1 (even if they know the horse should be 100-1) winners and stop THERE (or wherever) while the tote is much more likely to reflect reality and keep lengthening. With the shorties the bookies themselves (in addition to big punters) are often making late plunges with the tote or each other so it's hard to know which way the worm will turn AT THE END. Yesterday I got just over $40 for the last winner in Brisbane (this was the Unitab price, but I didn't need to compare, thanks to Tote!Super etc). The bookies stopped at 25-1 and both NSW and Super were around $27 or so as well. It saves a lot of messing around jumping from TAB to TAB and Exchange to exchange etc OR bookie to bookie. Hope this "helps". P.S. You already know my opinion of "fancied" horses and my disdain for FORM (the "reason" they are fancied). You may recall, KV, my earlier thoughts on picking "psychologically" and going against the crowd, so longshots become the ONLY way to bet. Give it a go (if you recall my criteria) and you will not encounter this Bookies vs Totes problem very often. Cheers |

![]() Thats kinda what I meant in my post #12 Mr. Bhagwan. If you also use IAS then you eek out that little bit more. If a progressive staking strategy is being used then a whole whack of $1.00 returns can be f......g annnoying, but by spreading it around there's usually one state out of whack...which is great!

![]() Hi again. If you're reading KV, I am using MaxiToteCity for best Tote odds, not the (accidentally) named Super!Tote (see my previous). Sorry!!! and cheers.
