Metal, steel and horses don't mix.
There is not enough padding on those stalls and too many places a horse can get caught, or cut. If a horse rears up there should be ample clearance, for the horse and jockey and the sides should be high enough that a horse can't get cast. Bad design.

Alternative barriers are the NZ type. I have looked into this and the big problem with the NZ barriers is they take 20min. to set up each race as each barrier has to be independently staked and also there is a big problem with them opening at the same time. There can be as much as 1 sec. [six lengths] difference in them opening!

Well if that is the case then they aren't a viable option as you pointed out crash, surely with todays technology they can come up with something better then the cages they start in right now.

I believe that the stewards are going to conduct an inquiry about what happened, that is very good (I think not), who is in charge of a race meeting the STEWARDS thats who. So we have Caesar judging Caesar. If anyone is to blame it is the STEWARDS so what can we expect? NOTHING.

I notice on Racing Victorias website thta Caesar has now judged Caesar and are now to interview the starter about the paraphenalia that caused the incident with Maldivian with a view to exonerate themselves and blame him and the telecaster for the problem. WHO JUDGES THE JUDGES?????
