Lomaca, how much a year do you make out of your betting system? ...by not following the money as a criteria.

What punters should realize is that 'smart money' is mostly never with the TAB's, but with the bookies and goes on by phone.

A comfortable living for the last 3 years full time!
I did not want to go full time before, because I am chicken, and also I had a very good job, (where I'm actually still contracting part time, chicken you see, just in case)
I did finish near the top of some tipping comps. years back, but I do not tip anymore, not for any particular reason, just that I don't think I have to prove anything.
For what it's worth, I go for the remaining 70%.
I put my bets in as soon as the scratchings are posted, therefore I don't know what the prices will be and I care not for the track condition!
Sometime my selections will be the favs, more often they are not.
Cheers

Well it is not a system, it is handicapping, although I do it via software, developed by myself, (some think that true handicapping can only be done manually).
I give you a hint, and it is a major part of my rating (a part only!!), watch out for horses moving up or down in class in a BIG way!!! It is not uncommon for me to catch a place divi. of >$7 by betting on horses doing poorly in the previous race, and coming down in class !! and being ignored by punters! hence my aversion for following money!
Now there is the catch, how do you define class?
I will not tell you how I do it, suffice to say, the TAB defined class is a joke!
I have my own class rating, and although they may be incorrect they served me well.
Crash had alluded to how to define class, in the past, and his ideas were on the same track as mine, or vice versa.
If he is willing to enlighten you, it's up to him.
PS. Contrary to popular wisdom I DO follow maidens and low class races
AS LONG they have past records they can be rated, if too many first starters or limited records, forget the race.
I think it is much harder to pick a winner out ten good horses then it is to pick one out of two!
Good luck!

Class to me is defined in 2 ways >> the obvious cl2 or mw0 etc. The 2nd is average prizemoney of horses it last raced against to the upcoming race.

well thats how i see it anyway

My database is no different from any other, we all get the same basic data, although some suppliers give you additional info.
I am working in IT so I do write my own software, that helps I suppose.
Here is a sample file in (Excel so that anyone can see it), to show you what I mean by coming down in class.
If you scroll to the right to the field "Raceclasspoints" you can see that the horse always did better when down in class from the previous race, BUT much better when significantly down! And it paid handsomely! Of course other people cottoned on and the last time they backed it accordingly.
Naturally this down in class business is just part of a rating, a donkey will not do well, no matter how far down in class it goes.
The class rating of a race is my own, anyone can do it, and as long it is consistent doesn't matter what points you give them.
Cheers

Do you use prizemoney averages for class ratings?

No I don't, not because I think it's wrong , just that when I was developing my race classing, I never thought of it, and now it is working OK so I don't change it.

I don't think I said anything about chasing smart money, or even mug money.
The market price is the best formguide for picking the greatest number of winners, which you choose to bet and how is up to the individual.

Show me one person or program that can beat the market by number of winners.

But seeing it's been brought up about money, if you get the best price about horses which firm you do pretty well.

Goyousoandso, I got $5.00 on Betfair.

It was backed from $6.00 into $4.60 with the bookies
It paid $3.70 on the tote.
I got 35% better odds on a horse that there was money for.

You never go broke getting value about smart money horses
