Thanks Paddy.

I think it makes it more of an omen bet doesn't it EI.

You just happened to write down the wrong horse name which was the same name of a horse racing on the same day that you posted it and it WON!!!!

Just happened to have a few dollars on it as well EI , thanks for the mistake!!!!

anyone wanting to succeeed at this game should study the Camster's technique - there are some pretty simple lessons to be learnt.
1. he doesnt try to pick too many races
2. most of his races have very small fields - which obviously improve the chances of picking a winner. He even refers at one point to the stupidity of trying to pick a winner in a large field.
3.most of his runners are short priced favourites who have the form to match their favouritism.

and it works - it is quite entertaining to watch, along with his happy go lucky style.

Every Topic I agree that he has a great record and is selective with his bets.

I disagree with field sizes and short priced favourites though.

Very poor value is available in small field sizes for horses with good form.

Value lies in being able to select horses with class and fitness - not necessarily with outstanding recent form. With a horse like Northerly your odds are always shorter than the true odds of it winning. Same goes for Sunline, Lonhro, Victory Vein etc.

You only have to pick one good horse to beat them at good odds - win one race and you're well ahead. Example Spinning Hill was great value over Bel Esprit.
Horses with a huge following are always poor value.
For Example in the Cox Plate I'll be going with Ustinov and Grandera. Win lose or draw -I'll be getting value over the hot pots.
Longterm this will always give you a level stakes profit.
However, I do admire the strike rate of Richard and will never come close to it as it's just not a method I'm comfortable with.

I guess it's just horses for courses.

howdy EI,
whilst I am the first to agree that favourite chasing is a wasted pursuit most of the time, there are obviously horses that are better than the rest and they will win - so I cant see what point there is in betting on a losing, non favourite, horse.

In yesterdays example his pick won and paid $1.50
Since his strike rate is phenomonal, I would be happy with the $1.50

Even though I pointed out that he picks races with small fields - if there were only two horses in every race for the next week I still couldnt pick 15 in a row

I hope those who are feeding off his success are noble enough to cough up a percentage of their winnings in appreciation of his hard work.

who is he - do you know???

Hi,

As far as I know he just refers to himself as a "form student".

I know that he is extremely selective in his bets as you say. Sometimes he will miss a day or even a couple of weeks without selecting anything and the "WHAMO."
He certainly knows a few trainers etc over there indicated by the detail of a couple of his postings.

I am considering opening a betting account in the U.K. because I do alright on their horses!
I posted a trial system there and it's going well.

I had never paid any attention to UK racing until recently but was amazed at how many races there are with only 5 or 6 horses running during the week. And some of the courses are quite interesting in layout
Do you have any words of wisdom for those wishing to have a stab at UK racing, either from a how to pick a betting agency point of view to impressions of how to win in that market???
I had a hunt around for form guides and have settled on the Racing Post site - it seems quite comprehensive for an amateur like me.
Its odd looking at the racing scene in another country - in the UK they have 6 in a greyhound race, dont seem to have much of a trots scene and have plenty of small field races.
