![]() the beauty of doing it my way is that had Zazzman or any other roughie got up and 2 of my 3 run a place, I still get it plus it pays more.
Even had Vinnie Roe won it would of been a bigger payout. Last year my friend picked Makybe Diva, Jardine's Lookout & ????. She's Archie ran 2nd, so it just shows that you only need 1 roughie to get in the first 3 to get a decent payout ($11K half unit). And you don't get wiped out if a roughie gets up for 2nd if you take 2 to run 1st & 2nd. Admittedly I did think about taking Makybe Diva & Vinnie for 1st and 2nd then the field, but chickened out. Once the rain came I thought it was a good bet, I only put the bet on 3 minutes before the race. Even though it cost me more I liked the insurance, had Vinnie run 3rd. There was $11M in the Win pool on Uni Tab for the Melb Cup. While there was $10.5M in the trifecta pool. There has to be value in there somewhere. |

![]() Yeah, I know. With the AB/AB/Field trifecta, it's not the cost that's the scary part. It's the fact that those two horses have to come 1st and 2nd. I guess you could also take another trifecta with the field in for second instead of third.

![]() It's just like having a quinella except you get paid 2K instead of 2bob.

![]() you got it umrum
and sportz, that is why you have to take 3 tri's to cover if they don't run 1-2. Here is another way of getting a bigger div than normal. If you really like a horse in a particular leg of a double, just take it as a standout in the 1st leg and then the field in the 2nd (or Field in the 1st leg then your standout). you then have the chance of a huge payout. |

![]() just reading through here, some interesting combinations. My favourite trifecta method is picking 1 standout and using him as a rover with the field. Ideally i pick races between 9 - 11 to keep costs down. With larger fields I will have rover with 8 others, seems to do ok. Another favourite of mine is in races (dogs good with fields of eight) is when you have a short priced favourite, is to put field 1st favourite 2nd field 3rd, this costs $21 for half and you get some very nice returns when a roughie beats the fav.
New to thid forum and enjoying others opinions, keep it up Good luck to all!!!

![]() I will usually put 3 horses on top of a triffecta 2 which I feel are the standout picks regardless of the odds then I will find the best roughie I can find in the race who I give the best opportunity to win.
I will then add another 3 to the 2nd line coupled with the first 3 that is the method I have had the best success with it costs me $30 for a half unit not cheap but it is alright when it works out even better when the roughie gets up with the rest of them. |

![]() The amazing thing about the Mel Cup trifecta is that 12 months ago you would have thought it was an obvious one. Makybe has just one her first one, Vinnie Roe was still winning Irish St. Legers and Zazzman won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes for about its 4th win in a row. Unfortunately its form this year has been woeful with several duck eggs by his name.
