Understand that the Melbourne Racing Club decided against using its discretionary powers to elevate Zipping into the field.

Couldn't agree more Cheda.
They seem to be able to elevate some cat/crab/******/(insert any derogatory name you like) from half a world away.

The ABC had a small segment on "Insiders" the other day re the Jap horses.
Apparently in Japan they have an "A" and "B" system of racing their horses. ie: to graduate to the "A" class you have to earn your way thru the "B" ranks or some such thing.
Anyway, they interviewed a trainer who had a horse nominated for a "B" race, which, if it won, would elevate it into the "A" ranks.
When asked what he would do if the horse got beat and didn't get elevated, he said he would probably take it to Australia for the Melb Cup!!!!!!!

They really need to review how they determine order of entry for these big races and put more value on recent performances. How a horse like Dizelle with 1 win and numerous unplaced performances in last 12 months can get in ahead of horses like Zipping (5 wins in last 12 months) is beyond me!
