I method that I find works pretty well especially with the dogs is that I will choose a 2nd or 3rd favourite especially if it is out of a good box. I will then put 3 trifecta's on.

1 - 2,3,4,5,6 - 2,3,4,5,6
2,3,4,5,6 - 1 - 2,3,4,5,6
2,3,4,5,6 - 2,3,4,5,6 - 1 Total $30 for .50c

This means that the dog I choose only has to place and I will get the trifecta provided that the 2 dogs I don't have don't come in the top 3 which doesn't happen too often and by not taking the favourite as the standout it increases my chances of picking up a decent return.

This method can seem to work ok for thoroughbred races provided the field isn't too large.

If there is a standout favourite in a race, I will take the fav. straight out to win eg. 1 - 2,3,4,5,6 - 2,3,4,5,6 $10 for a half unit but I usually don't swap the order around because if the fav does win the dividend usually isn't great enough to cover a $30 outlay. If the fav loses, I'm only losing $10.

Another small tip. I find for Sydney greyhounds, if you find a dog that has been running poorly at Wentworth Park but has been taken back to a provincial meeting like Singleton, they do win quite often and sometimes in the past I have had them come in at as much as $40 for the win. Very rarely are they short. My only theory for this is that the trainer is trying to give it a confidence boost.

Good Luck and good punting

PS Has anyone got a reliable punting method for Casino or Lismore dog races as the straightless track makes backing a winner much more difficult. Quite often I find the best dog doesn't win.

Trent,
Lismore and casino are the only NSW tracks I bet on. Casino is by far my most profitable track due the fact that bad dogs can win at big odds. The key to Casino is finding the leader and the only way to do that is to watch videos and do sectionals.
Lismore used to be fantastic on the grass but it is not so easy on the sand. Poor dogs find it hard to win there now whilst at Casino, poor dogs that lead often get "pushed" over the line at double figure odds. The pools at Casino are huge too which is great - it means you can bet up on roughies without affecting the odds too much.

Trent,
Are you prepared to buy video tapes of Casino and Lismore (approx $60 per week) and spend about 20 hours per week watching EVERY dog's run and then giving each dog a rating adjusted for checks etc. This is the MINIMUM required to have any chance at winning long term.

Hey Rocksteady.
Put a dint in your overheads perhaps by subscribing to a pay TV channel and recording the races yourself.
If not you,maybe possibly Trent.

I subscribe to Foxtel BUT you only get the greyhounds AFTER the last gallops race on Fridays. I also like to get the tape of the maiden qualifiers from both Casino and Lismore which are NEVER shown on television because they are a NON TAB race. However they are extremely handy in gaining an edge.

Oh well, was just a thought being unable to justify the expenses myself.
But I did believe during the early hours of the morning they showed replays of races.Perhaps not the greyhound ones.
Nice to see you back posting Rocky.

Beginning to think that the best idea is to leave these two tracks alone. Yes I do have Sky Channel but I work Full Time which limits the amount of time I hae to spend doing the necessary analysis required which puts me behind from the start. Paying $60 per week for tapes with no guarantees of picking winners and re-couping that money through winners also makes it difficult.

I'll consider Cranbourne instead on Friday's. Seems to me with this track is that if you stick to the quick beginners you do pretty well because for some reason, dog's coming from behind find it difficult to run down the leaders on this track.

Thanks for you help though Rocksteady
