Question What performance was best?

1 2.15 Canny Jack 5 55 Jason Whiting 7 6 1 1:05:57 (34:97)

1 2.15 Paris Petard 2 58.5 Shaun Mc Gruddy 6 6 1 1:05:36 (34:23)

On times and weight you could conclude that Paris Petard was the better run of the two today, but just how much did they each have up their sleeve?

Thumbs up The Pontiff

R1 Just Les - looks the leader and be hard to run down. Could be some pressure though which would help Canny Jack to run him down.
R2 Ravinia - was left standing by Paris Petard last start, meets that filly much better at the weights but I think another miss for Harvey.
R3 Scopaciri - Could lead from out there but might have to work a little. With a big field it's a good risk.
R4 Action Pak - 58.5kg, even field, many runners, even though well drawn is worth betting against.
R6 Scenic Shot - clearly his best chance, looks the winner. Problem could be getting a clear run as he might be cluttered up from bar 1. Won't be betting in the race as it'll be too short but not confident about anything else.
R8 Real Halo - Was a 'cushy' win last start, was outside the leader(surprise) in a slowly run race. Harvey has jumped off Raw Metal which is a pointer but might not be enough.

Excellent call anchor, the pontiff doesn't go winless too often!

Good punting. Go Railings!

On the ball westwinners! still don't believe the odds that were on offer for Lord Lonsdale, shooting for (and getting) 5 wins on the trot!

Default grey matter wrap-up

The best performances for the greys yesterday at Ascot were It Will Do (2nd 6/1), Diamond Grey (2nd 30/1) and So Long Syd (3rd 20/1).

Default Melvista Stakes

1 5.50 Cats Fun (B) 4 53.5 William Pike 4 3 1 2:17:76 (35:81)
2 9 Impact Rating 5 53.5 David O'Heare 6 10 2 SNK 2:17:83 (35:36)
3 17 Mr Diagnosis 6 53.5 Shaun Mc Gruddy 1 1 3 1 1/4 L 2:17:97 (36:01)
4 1.75 Scenic Shot 1 57 Paul Harvey 13 11 4 1 3/4 L 2:18:06 (35:35)

Scenic Shot wasn’t handicapped to win this race and with his inside draw and the rail out 12 Metres it should have been obvious to most pro-punters that this was the race he would lose.

It will be a different matter in the Derby when we get back to the set weights!

Notwithstanding the race was a Set Weights & Penalties race, you comments are interesting FD, ones I would be like to know more about in a more detailed manner. The reason being that according to the handicapper's own ratings Scenic Shot was rated 9.5kgs above any other runner in the race yet only had to give a maximum of 3.5kgs.

Ran 3rd at WA debut beaten 1 1/4 lens. Fitter and 1200 today (race 6) should suit.
