There were three two year old trials at Lark Hill yesterday.

Heat one went to the Terry Tapper trained Kanojo. The Chanteclair filly is out of the Salmon Leap mare Spawn To Win who is a half sister to the classy WA stayer Rocky Murano. Runner up was Miss Memphis with The Black Flash third and margins were a head by 3 1/2 lengths. Time for the 400m was 24.5 seconds.

The second heat went to the John Price trained Tears Of Surprise. Another filly she is by Red Eye Special out of Surpriser, the former Price trained mare that won eight races and over $92,000 in stakes. Margin was a neck over Dalian with a 1/2 length back to Laetare third. Time was 55.5 seconds for the 900m.

The final heat was won by Big Kev. The Keltrice colt is trained by Ted Martinovich and is out of Emerald Set. A winner of seven races and a producer of two winners already at stud, Emerald Set is a sister to two stakes winners and a half sister to Group 1 Fruit N Veg Stakes winner Blevvo. Margins 1 3/4 lengths over Corporate Flyer with another 1/2 length to Star Card. Time was 55 seconds.

Info from the WATURF Club.

Would it be possible for you guys to nominate your top 5 postillions, whether they be fully fledged or apprentices.

We over here, know of Paul Harvey of course as he would rank in the top 10 nationally, but is there a large gap in ability to the next jockey.

Speaking of Harvey, has he ever tried his luck anywhere else?

Can't recall any long stints outside WA.

My top five would be Paul Harvey, Jason Brown, Paul King, Stephen Miller and Shaun McGruddy. All fully fledge and I believe not much between them.

Paul Harvey seems to consistently get good cattle, perhaps he has a very good manager.

My top 5 would be Paul Harvey, Paul King, Jason Whiting, Peter Knuckey & Clint Harvey (1.5kg claim currently).

Don't think Paul Harvey is as dominant as he was in the past - since the injury he suffered a some time back that put him out of action for a while.

Courtesy The West Australian website:

Shirazamatazz, who impressively won Saturday's $45,000 Aquanita Stakes (1600m), is aimed at the $300,000 WATC Derby (2400m) in five weeks.

The Aquanita Stakes was the event in which Northerly, ridden by Carbery, scored his first win three years ago. He was having his second race, carried 52kg and started at 14/1.

"Staying potential was shown by Shirazamatazz when he won at Pinjarra and Ascot mid-week meetings in the past month," trainer Fred Kersley said. "He performed better than I expected in the Aquanita and now looks worthy of a Derby start."

Tritri ran minor places at Ascot in four of her five starts before she won Saturday's Sinfully Wild Handicap (1200m) for jockey Peter Knuckey.

"She's a nice mare whose problems seem to have been overcome," Kersley said. "She will race on in special conditions company."

Island Temptress, who won Saturday's $45,000 Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) by 3¾ lengths, has been entered by trainer John Bow in the $150,000 WA Oaks (2400m) on April 12 and the WA Derby.

Bow said he was confident the Island Morn filly, a winner at three of her past five starts, would be hard to beat for jockey Alana Sansom on Saturday.

"Island Temptress ran a very good fifth in the Sheila Gwynne Stakes two weeks ago," Bow said.

There were two juvenile trials held at Lark Hill yesterday on a good track.

In heat one the winner was Magic Aces. The gelding won the Crystal Slipper Stakes at Ascot in December and won the 900m trial by a head over Changing Lanes. A margin of five lengths when separated them from the third horse Bonny Pastime. Watch for Changing Lanes in the future. It was the first trial appearance for the unraced Racer's Edge gelding. Time was 55 seconds.

The other trial went to All Keyed Up. The name is appropriate he is by Key Business out of Key Appeal. A four time city winner Key Appeal is closely related to the Melbourne Listed winner Obadele. Runner up 1 1/2 lengths behind was Tribal Ghost with a 1/2 head to Plainlessly. Time was 55.75 seconds.
