Talking Rugby League Prices

Sportz or anyone else
Coming out of retirement!
Any idea where I can get list of games and opening prices for league season 2008 starts etc
Am keen to try a strategy this year as it seems that an enormous amount of roughies win and or favs lose against the start
Cheers

The NSW TAB Sportsbet site used to be good for that sort of thing, but I've just had a look and their current results section only goes back to October.

The Unitab site doesn't have any opening prices but it does have all the line betting results. It's a bit damn time consuming going through them though. Anyway, I looked at last year and here's what happened.

Team giving up the start - 97
Team receiving the start - 95

So over the whole season of 192 games (without finals), it was pretty much 50/50.

And going round by round (favoured team first):
1: 6/2
2: 2/6
3: 3/5
4: 5/3
5: 5/3
6: 3/5
7: 3/3
8: 2/3
9: 2/4
10: 6/2
11: 1/4
12: 5/3
13: 5/3
14: 3/2
15: 3/5
16: 3/5
17: 2/3
18: 2/6
19: 2/6
20: 4/4
21: 6/2
22: 5/3
23: 5/3
24: 6/2
25: 4/4
26: 4/4

Interesting to note that in the final 6 rounds of the comp by which time all the form is well known and there are no more rep games, the favoured team won 62% of the time. Up until that point, the underdogs were in front.

Is anyone tracking the odds so far this year?

So far, the underdogs are on top. It's 11-5 in favour of the team receiving the start over the team giving up the start.

And it's 7 wins to the home team, 9 to the away team.

This is a very good area to get into. There are plenty of options available here. I have a few different systems myself that are on the go in NRL and they all are quite good.

One interesting tidbit I can provide is that for most of 2007 and all 2008 I just put a flat amount on any NRL team offering $3 or more for the win. It made a pretty good profit.

I've stopped doing this one as I have developed my own rating system which defines odds and then I look to get "value" on these (i.e. find teams offering more than my estimations predicted). So far this system is 9/16 and making a healthy profit. So it goes to show that there are plenty of ways to exploit these as most punters dont know how to frame the market properly.

Good luck.
