Default 2013 Spring Tipping Comp

NATIONAL PUNTING LEAGUE (Spring 2013)

Here's how the comp works. We will all be tipping against each other for 10 weeks from this Saturday, August 3, through to October 5, the last day of the Sydney carnival. Then at the completion of those 10 weeks, the lowest ranking tipsters will be knocked out week by week until we are left with the top 8 tipsters to go head to head in a final series over the week of the Melbourne Cup carnival culminating in the Grand Final on Saturday, November 9.

RULES

1. Of the 10 Saturdays during the preliminary rounds, you must tip on at least 7 of them.
In other words, you are allowed to miss 3 weeks. No more.

2. You can post anywhere between 5 and 15 selections each week.

4. You can bet anywhere between $50 and $150 each week.
The leading tipsters are judged on % profit, not the total amount of profit. So betting more won't give you a better chance.

5. These are the different bet sizes you can use on your selections.
($5 Win, $10 Win, $15 Win, $20 Win, $25 Win, $30 Win, $5 ew, $10 ew or $15 ew)

6 . Races you can tip in:
You can tip at any Australian meeting covered by Tattsbet on Saturdays. Which is just about everything.

7 . I will explain what happens when we get to the knockout stage at a later date.
We have to see how many tipsters we get first (hopefully we will get a good number) as that will decide how the knockout stage is conducted.

Calculating your $ return:
I will be using "Sportingbet Maxidiv" to calculate the return on all races if available. If not available, I will be using Tattsbet dividends.

Hi Sportz

Sounds good. New to the competition so please forgive me if this is a silly question.

Is consistency rewarded? ie if someone tips 5/2 to 6/1 winners consistently and another has 8 weeks with no winners and suddenly gets a 50/1 shot up.

Thanks
Dave

Well, I would say a mixture of consistency AND the ability to get good winners every now and then.

If someone only gets one big longshot winner during the whole comp, they won't be winning. One 50-1 winner could possibly get you into the finals, but once there, you will still need to tip well and find more winners from then on to take out the comp.

Have you got 3rd / 4th placings for each of those previous comp years, sportz?

Cheers LG

Why is that? No, I don't have that info on me right now, but I could find out I guess. Busy at the moment though.

Feel free to start posting tips for tomorrow, guys.

Remember you can post 5-15 tips and only use the bet sizes that I listed in the opening thread.

Because you put the stats up in detail for several years(e.g. final scores) and that raised my curiosity regards who from the current day forum has been playing this comp over the years plus which of them finished in the semi's.

Didn't expect you to drop everything and/or ferret through your records this very minute, however.

Cheers LG
