Online poker tips
Here are a few general guidelines.
Betting limits You need to find a table you can afford because you’ll be posting plenty of blinds. If your bankroll is $50, then you wouldn’t really want to play at a $5-$10 table. Limit vs No-Limit Tables It is probably best to only play no-limit tables if you are a very strong player with a large bankroll. The players It's a good idea before you start to play to watch the action, and learn about the players. See if you can spot the loose players, the tight hit and run players, the crazy players. Pick your seat Try and get a favorable seat based on the players at the table. You’ll probably want the unpredictable, aggressive players on your right, so that you can get out of a marginal hand before it becomes too expensive. It's good to have the timid players on your left playing after you, as you will be able to bluff and they will fold. If not that will tell you they have a good hand. Know the odds It's not too difficult to learn the odds for when you need one card to make a full house or a straight. Use this as a guide for whether or not you should stay in a hand. Have plenty of time available Don’t rush in for a quick half-hour session. You should study the players before joining the table. Give yourself at least an hour. Don't play with scared money Only play with money you are prepared to lose. You need to play sensibly. If you are afraid of losing money you will easily be bluffed out of good hands or play too timidly. Be disciplined If you are down don't chase your losses. If you are up don't play loosely because "you're playing with their money." |

Similar to web sites, the casinos take a small % cut of each pot bet.
Furthermore, I understand that the on-line sites take a smaller cut as they obviously have far more tables in operation without the same overheads. |

some basic tips
If you are new at the game, play with Play money. Get used to what to do, and how the action at the table works. Don't learn while you are gambling.

Party now provide new account holders to play on beginner tables ... This last for 45 days and provided players with a good environment to practice and learn ... I found the quality of play much better than "play money" games and freeroll tournaments. |

party poker
Does anyone use the nut game browser? A guy at PP tipped me to the site, it looks good for learning the game. It gives you a free stat report on your game at PP.

The biggest tip I can give in online poker is to play very, very tight. Find a loose table and then wait till you hit a good hand. There will always be people who call you online and you will win big.
Bluffing is the worst thing to do online as you will get called more often. I know becuase this is where I lost a bit of money. As far as I see it I only lose when I bluff or I get a bad beat ( 4 of a kind beats a Full House has happened to me so many times). Of course this is just my person opinion of the sites I play at. Personally I am still learning a lot but I have taken my account and and made over 600% return in the last few months. I prefer SnG's but I make more money and sometimes lose alot of money at ring games. I prefer to play 6 or less seaters as I know my odds on those tables. I am not good at playing 10 seat tables as I tend to play too weak hands ( using the same hands I play with at a 6 seat table ). Good Luck with it |

$/table/hr is higher in ring, but you can multitable much heavier in sngs leading to a higher hourly rate with much lower variance & BR swings |
