Default Welcome to our new poker forum

Hi everyone and welcome.

Online poker is such a big craze in the US at the moment we thought it was worth adding this forum as a place to discuss tips and strategies, compare online poker rooms and alert each other to bonuses, etc.

I personally play quite a bit on Party Poker and am currently reading up on Texas Holdem and trying to improve my game. Texas Holdem is now the most popular poker variant in the world and is the one I would most recommend specialising in if you want to make regular income online from poker. I only started playing it recently after specialising in half deck draw for many years, but it is interesting and complex and lends itself to skilful play.

So far I am able to win at the $3 - $6 tables in Party Poker most of the time but have not been able to demonstrate an edge at the $5 - $10 tables. The standard improves as you move up the stakes. I can make about US $80 per hour on average at the $3 - $6 tables at my current level of skill, but hope to be able to beat the higher stakes tables soon.

If you want to join Party Poker and get a US $100 joining bonus either click on the links on this forum or go to the index page of Pro-Punter where there is an ad for Party. Use the bonus code 200 Free when you join to get the cash bonus.

You can definitely make a good hourly rate from online poker if you read up a bit and get your skills to a reasonable level.

Hello Guy,

I have been following the Texas Hold'em on foxtel for as long as it has been on and only became aware of it thanks to foxtel.

As far as I was aware internet poker was illegal in Australia. Does this mean that I as an Australian cannot play online at an overseas venue?

or,

Does it mean that Australian online poker sites are illegal.

I would love to get involved with an online poker site (particularily those playing Texas Hold'em).

What sites do you recommend. Obviously the one you mentioned in your inital post in this thread, but I would also like to know of others that are reputable.

Kind regards,

Jack Daniels.

There is no law I know of that prohibits Australians from playing poker online.

Another reputable site is Pacific Poker and I have put a link to it on the front page of www.smartgambler.com.au in the centre section along with a link to Party. I think Pacific is the second largest in the world behind Party. Empire is big too.
