Can you place punters clarify something for me please? If a place bet is put on when there is a field of 8 or more, but late scratchings reduce the field to seven, does the bet stand & only pay for 1st & 2nd? (the right answer will win me a pot!!)

No. All three places are paid as long as it was an 'official' late scratching. Unitab indicates 'late scratching' on its race list. Some of the others do not.

Cheers

Sunday 12th February 2006

$50 - CR5 Number 1 Entrega 4:20pm

Today's Outlay: $50
Total Outlay: $400

This horse is a good thing, beautifully weighted and won two in a row prior. Get on I'd say. Race paying 1 & 2 only, but I am very certain it'll finish in the top 2.

Thanks Merriguy.

What constitutes an 'unofficial late scratching'? What happens if a horse(s) is withdrawn at the barrier?

Regards - Bomber

Bomber,

Sorry about the delay in responding. As I understand things, any horse withdrawn for any reason after a certain time (before the first race??) is considered a late scratching. Perhaps some more knowledgeable person can help. Would be interested to know too.
