View Full Version : RACE OF THE DAY COMP
Sportz
27th January 2006, 01:06 PM
Okay, I thought it was time to start up a new feature race tipping comp, now that the Autumn carnival is just about here.
Each major race day, I'll nominate one or perhaps two feature races and you have to list your first 4 selections in order. We'll all get scores out of 100 based on how well our tips go, much like the Ratings comp last year. Obviously, if you can pick them in the correct order 1-2-3-4, then you get the perfect score of 100, and if none of your four comes close, you get zero.
So, if you want to have a go, simply list your first 4 selections in order (plus maybe 2 reserves in case of scratchings).
The first race in the comp is the Chester Manifold at Flemington tomorrow:
FLEM R7 CHESTER MANIFOLD STAKES 1410 M

Sportz, just outta a matter of interest how do you actually work out the points???
Sportz
29th January 2006, 01:09 PM
Okay, here's the points system. It might look complicated, but it's not really. It rewards people for correctly tipping the winner (which none of us did yesterday) and also finding the placegetters in their top 4 picks. Anyone who successfully tips the horses 1-2-3-4 gets 100 points, and the scores get progressively lower from there.
50 points - Winner tipped 1st
40 points - Winner tipped 2nd
35 points - Winner tipped 3rd
30 points - Winner tipped 4th
15 points - 2nd horse tipped in top 4
10 points - 3rd horse tipped in top 4
5 points - 4th horse tipped in top 4
10 points - First4 tipped in correct order
7.5 points - First4 tipped in wrong order
7.5 points - Trifecta tipped in correct order
5 points - Trifecta tipped in top 3
2.5 points - Trifecta tipped in top 4
2.5 points - Quinella tipped in top 2

so i should keep the champers on ice for a while yet sportz? :)

A few mates have a long running syndicate which involves $50 being bet each week. The guy who's turn this week put on a box 4 for the trifecta and even had 4th. I laughed at him in the morning when he told me what he had picked, thought he was crazy....... I guess he had the last laugh!!!!

My selection is No.4 My Chanticlear to win or at odds e/w. Has done a 1400m before first up in stronger class and average p/money is way up on this lot. B.Cross on-board and who knows?

I didn't get to see the race, how close was the FOO'ster in the end?
Raw Instinct
11th February 2006, 06:07 PM
Sportz he stayed on pretty well beaten around about 3/4 length by Lad of the Manor who was 3 wide in the breeze all the way pretty good effort by him. In all honesty Perfect Promise won pretty easily with some nice runs behind her after that run though she might be close to the best mare in the country as a sprinter ran a huge 2nd in the stradbroke and that was another notch ahead of that run by her be interesting to see how she goes on from there.
Nice runs to Lad of the Manor, Fields of Omagh, Early Express, Great is Great, Casual Pass and Valedictum just having a real quick look at it. Any Regal Roller fans out there get off him and stay off he is gone I am afraid to say.

LOL to many beers at the pub thought the walk home might have freshened me up a bit after watching the race a few more times the best of the closers were Domesday and Casual Pass both hit the line well but nothing really seemed to be overhauling Lad at any great rate which I think makes his effort huge but shows how good Perfect Promise might be.

She's a super filly, Virage. How anyone could have Rewaaya ahead of her (including the market) absolutely astounds me. Rewaaya's best win to date was in Open 3yo grade, her best run a second in a Group 1 when she had every possible.
Virage's best run - won a Group 1 by 2 lengths. Or was it her win against the open age in Group 2. Or her second in another Group 2 to California Dane. Or her Group 3 win in Brisbane. Or her 3yof Group 3 win at the Valley.
Rewaaya is a very, very nice filly, but fair dinkum...

No ya got me there mate
all i can say is that I had the horse in race 4 at about 4$ (thus the comment about being good for the month) and the winner of the last at about 26$.. I didnt even consider it a chance

The only other thing I can think of is that thye both would have gone around pretty short had they stayed home tonight
Sportz
18th February 2006, 07:06 PM
They finished in the first 4 at each of their last 4 starts, and they were starting from the extreme outside barrier in a field of 12 or more.
I usually have a small each way bet on these horses, because they can sometimes come home at huge odds. Today was a case in point!!! And I double the bet if the horse has won at this distance at this track.
So, it was a good day for that little fun system today. :)
Raw Instinct

Would it be that they both started from barrier 14 which were both the outside barriers for there races.

I backed Pure Energy, Fair Ace and Adavale Hornet in Brissie all ridden by Melanie Price and actually wanted to back Partridge in the last but when i saw she was riding it and it was coming from the outside barrier i thought no way she would get 4 winners at her first metro meeting so jumped off, how stupid was that???
Anyway congrats to Melanie Price what a superb effort, not just riding 4 winners at her first metro meeting but 2 of those winners coming from the outside gate at 40/1 and 50/1!!!!

18th February 2006, 07:58 PM

Okay I guess. There was a story about her in the Courier Mail yesterday. She's a 28 year old mum (a mature age apprentice), and she hadn't even ridden a city winner before today!!!

I dont'even know where to start on that Duritz. Has a Queenslander stolen your girlfriend?
Duritz
3rd March 2006, 11:56 PM
Speaking of monkeys, where else in the world but in monkey Queensland would the abbreviation QLD represent Queensland??
What happened there - the pollies said, "Well, Queensland is so hard to pronounce, let alone spell, for our voters, lets give them something to shorten it to."
And so they discussed it - the public wanted it to just be one letter, because that would be easier to remember, and of course the natural letter to choose in that case would be K - cos that's how most of them incorrectly began the spelling of their state name.
Others said, "No - let's make it two letters!" (Queensland intellectuals!) and their suggestion was therefore KW, being the first two letters of how most of them incorrectly started their state name.
If the rest of the country took the Queensland approach to abbreviations, we would have VTN, NUS, NOY, SHA, WNA, TNA (who cares about them!) and ANY.
That's yet another argument for the pile of arguments as to why Queenslander's shouldn't be allowed to vote, hold a license, hold a gun (God help us all!) breed, speak, sing, write or produce racecallers.
Eventually, luckily for all, the politicians asked a Victorian, "What would be the best abbreviation?" He replied, "SHTVL"... which they ended up shortening, to QLD.
Duritz
4th March 2006, 12:01 AM
LOL nah - I have a wife, and as far as I know she's not been tainted by the QLD brush..... (although she comes from northern NSW...)
I don't know why I wrote that stuff - I'm having a beer and being cheeky mainly, listening to music, have been doing form but have finished that (for Caulfield) and am letting mind wander. Unfortunately you guys copped the wanderings.
Tubby
4th March 2006, 12:04 AM
Queenslander's shouldn't be allowed to .... hold a gun (God help us all!) Scarily enough enough we do have guns. Something to do with protecting the queen's country during WWII
That was a fantastic post Duritz. It might not last too long though if the moderators are consistent.

:D I need to take a good hard look at myself for not picking the old bloke somewhere. I DID think he had a chance and the same with Red Dazzler, but I wouldn't have picked Rosden in a wild fit.
Duritz
4th March 2006, 07:09 PM
Yeah I tend to agree with that. I thought Red Dazzler had a roughies hope but left him out for being in totally crap form, and also because there were a lot of stronger chances IMO, however I too thought Rosden was struggling. I backed FOO, though, which was nice. Priced him $7.50. Was all set to back Perfect Promise (priced her $3.40) - thought they'd bet $5 her or something but she was low odds the whole way, in the last 5 mins just thought, "Well, looks like I'm on FOO!" For which I was very glad 7 minutes later.....
