Like u sports i shouldnt have gone against el segundo but i just thought purde might be up 2 the class. todays racer showed just how classy el segundo is. just to think he's probably 5-6 lengths better than last year with a far better turn of foot and last year he was fave for the caulfield cup. this year he looks the goods i just hope he doesnt repeat last years failure

I'm having trouble with Pompeii Ruler. The last couple of times I've gone against him and he's come out and won at good odds, so this time I thought I'd better tip him and look what happens. :(

I knew that one of the 2 would win (either El Segundo or Pompeii Ruler), and deep down I really knew that El Segundo was the better horse. The only doubt was the slight injury setback. He was inviting odds for the Cox Plate before today. I'm sure that's changed dramatically now!!!

Anyone know what the outcome [health wise] has been for Court's in Session? What a tragedy for this great horse and a sad hollow win for Racing to Win.
The word is Court's in Session ran a gut-buster last start. Obviously it wasn't up to todays race and the trainer/owners should have had top vet advice [maybe they did] which surly would have warned against the horse running.

A disgraceful comment to make when you don't know any of the people involved

My interest is with the horse not it's rich owners, who I'm sure aren't crying their eyes out for the poor punters who backed the poor thing.

I had a good day thank you--has nothing to do with political correctness. The owners would be a lot more shattered than you re the incident--love for their horse has nothing to do with their wealth, and I'm sure they love him a lot more than any punters, who will just move onto the next race.

A racehorse at 550kg travels at 60kph and at 1 point the whole weight and force is supported by a peice of bone the size of a 10 cent coin, and its supporting ligaments--the wonder is that more horses don't brake down. CIS was relatively lightly raced and to suggest that connections were anything but greedy. Guy Walter is a great trainer who would never race a horse if there was a major problem with him.

What happened to CIS was terrible (fortunately he will survive), but don't get into the crap of blaming the owner's greed--it was simply one of those awful things that happen in racing, and the owners, who obviously cared greatly for him, should not be slandered in such a manner.

Yeah right, they loved him so much they made him do a quick turnaround straight into a group 1 duel against Racing to win with Desert War going to be forcing the pace, just after what many experts considered a gutbuster run at Newcastle to just hold off Malcolm the previous week.

'Court Command has to go away from home for the first time, quickly settle in to different surroundings, drink different water, race in a different direction and race over a distance he is untested at. On top of that he has a jockey on him who probably has only seen Caulfield track on a replay of a former Caulfield Cup – and the bookies and fixed odds operators say he’s a $2.35 chance. How generous'!

Considering the runners, I think calling the race a G1 is perhaps a bit of a farce [they have over-watered again too apparently, just like last week at Flemington]. Most of the runners in this race seem to have more form-reversal on their books than Collingwood. A handicapping nightmare.

Wonderful Word's last win over 1400m [a G3] was 3.47 seconds outside the track record -on a good track too. Not a bad effort in Bar plates though and I wouldn't be surprised if he beat this lot either:-)

A 'Dead 4' today after a 3 day heat wave and northerly winds. No wonder Melb. Dams are short of water, their flooding the racecourses with it to protect all the over-raced shin-sore horses belonging to the rich and famous.

Zipping is st.uff.ed for the Caulfield, so Purcer was spot on there about him a couple of weeks back I think, about the horse being shin-sore.

If there is still a deadlock after that, then points will be awarded to each of the selections during the day on a 3,2,1 basis, and the tipster with the most points wins.

OK. But that's just wrong. 3yos have a very good record in the Cox Plate - Savabeel and Octagonal won it and Viscount placed just in the last 10 years. Consider that not many 3yos run in the race and those that do are not always the best of their year.

Miss Finland's problem was not that she "freaked-out". She simply got knowcked down 6-8 times and never got clear golloping room. With a clear run she may have won. As it was, she finished on the heels of the placegetters.

With MISS Finland we are [obviously] talking fillies and no 3yr old filly in 30 yrs has won the Cox plate. She copped a hiding in the Cox by the boys [knocked pillar to post].

IMO she was ridden poorly,,,she had the chance to get on the outside of runners but chose the inside option in traffic....have to admit Miss Finland with clear running would have gone fairly close..

Sven that was the thinking behind my query re what happens in the event of a draw--As home team I thought about waiting for my opponent to tip, then I would copy and add 1 more for the e/w and be assured of going through to the next round--probably 'legal' but not within the 'spirit of the game'.

Maybe to stop it from happening, we could have an 'agreement' that the 2nd person to post can have no more than 2 of the 1st person's selections (or some figure similar).

While I haven't actually made a rule about that, no you can't do it. More importantly, I would hope that nobody would even think of doing it.

So, before we go any further in the comp, I'll just say that there is nothing wrong with having 1 or 2 picks the same as your opponent, but any more than that is definitely not on.

Yeah, pretty good idea there. For the rest of this comp we'll just make it a maximum of 2 tips the same.

Personally, I usually tip late and I try to make sure I don't have the same tips. Except for the feature race. Sometimes you can't help but have the same horse there.

There you go. That's the weird thing about protests. 5th against 2nd was upheld. Now, the 5th horse probably would have won the race but for the interference, yet it only gets promoted to 4th place. Meanwhile the 4th and 3rd horses which weren't affected by the interference at all get promoted to 3rd and 2nd. Weird. I don't know what the answer is, but that doesn't seem exactly fair.
