Just looking at those in the market Deregulate does look a very strong chance. Testafiable most likely the main danger. Denmarket has a lot of weight and will have to be at his very best to have any chance. If ridden back in the field should run out the 1600 as he only warmed up last bit when he won the W.A. Sires over the 1400

Smart mare Ellicorsam was scheduled to appear in the last heat of the Lark Hill trials today. Await with interest how she performed. Another smart one Wire Detonator, who has been freshened up since his Hannan’s Hcp win, was listed to start in the same heat.

Ellicorsam is set to return to racing in next Tuesday's Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot.

Hasn't raced since being scratched on the eve of this year's Goodwood, when she was found to have a hoof injury and was immediately spelled.

As per my earlier post above she appeared in a recent trial at Lark Hill. Ran an encouraging 2nd behind stable mate Wire Detonator.

Let's hope Elli can find the form she showed prior that hoof injury that almost ended her racing career.

Surprised to spot BESWINGING (R2 Ascot today) over in the west but even more surprised that he’s campaigning through the warmer months i.e. good tracks. Don’t get me wrong has shown some ability in the past but hasn’t done much for over a year and all five wins have been in dead – heavy going. I’d being watching for a glimpse of form before putting my hard earned on.

Spot another from the east in your penultimate today – ROYAL JADE. Only lightly raced she’s done most of her racing in SA but did win at Sandown back in Jan (remember cause I backed her :D ) 3 starts at 1200 for 3 wins. Has had a short break but normally goes very well fresh. Worth including!

how would you feel if your a novice trainer given the task of mapping out the future for a young horse in this type of situation if....one of the possible dad's had staying lines and the other had sprinting! :)

Outside the runs already mentioned for yesterday I didnt mind the run of Classy Grace (7th) the Metal Storm mare didnt shirk the task and fought on extra well at her first run back from a 8 month break. Might be one to follow!

Nice run to finish 2nd behind Belle Bizarre yesterday at Ascot. Ran on well and even fitter for that run.

Solid win Testafiable don’t know what happened to Deregulate, Denmarket not racing as well as he could finished mid field.

$6.2 million has been spent revamping the Ascot track to ensure that Ascot’s last Perth Cup debacle will never happen again. Heavier than normal rainfall last winter and spring led to a large section of the Ascot track becoming waterlogged, not fully recovering and throwing the Ascot summer season into turmoil.

The revamp started with the entire track being torn up. A large amount of junk was removed from under the track and the sudden rise at the end of the straight is now gone, replaced by a gentle incline over its length. An old clay wall thought responsible for the water-logging is gone and Perth racing purchased its own turf farm and grew its own kikuyu which now forms the surface foundation for the entire track.

There is drainage every 9M, five large pumps to remove excess water from the lake (inside the track) when it flows from these drains and a 5 degree camber on the curves to enhance speed around the bends. At all distances Ascot is now capable of taking at least two more runners in the field. Ascot is now the second widest track in Oz! Well done to all those involved ! :)

Going for the Japanese horse EYE POPPER. Gave MAKYBE DIVA 2.5kg in the Tenno Sho (3200m) not beaten far by the Diva. Huge 6.5kg turnaround should make the difference Tuesday. Then not much between MAKYBE DIVA, VINNIE ROE, RAILINGS and LEICA FALCON for the minor spoils.
PORTLAND SINGA and BAZELLE my roughies.
Don’t rule out the WA owned DIZELLE all together but on best maybe a place.

On a happier note Avenida Madero was given an easy time in winning a 1000m trial at Belmont today. She is returning from a short spell and will be aiming to win some of the blue ribbon events over the summer carnival.

Avenida Madero is set to return to racing in the GroupII Winterbottom Stakes tomorrow. But what a crackerjack field!

She’s drawn well and boasts a first-up record of 7 starts for 5 wins 1 x 2nd 1 x 3rd. Interestingly blinkers stay on. In the trial she won (as per post above) she raced without the blinkers and looked really switched on over the last bit hitting the line easily for a comfortable win.

Wild Target set a new 1300M record in race 6 today - the Hartley Estate Sprint.

Wild Target clocked 1min 16.21secs to eclipse the previous record of 1min 16.37secs set by Prince Maker back in 1984.

Drawn the outside fence in the Winterbottom Stakes tomorrow so huge test for the 4YO gelding. With Ellicorsam in the field (race record holder) might have to break that record to win

In the last at Geraldton tomorrow Blessed Sue is shooting for six in a row at the track. Just looking through the form of PINCHBECK in the first purplepassion, he hasn't won for over 3 years  and that was a 2YO race at Moonee Valley beating one of our member's namesake Ra Sun. Only lightly raced so I assume has had recurring injury problems. Last run 2nd behind Cubic Zirconia was handy, who knows might be ready to resurrect his career.

I see that PINCHBECK is set to race in the 5th at Bunbury tomorrow.

Should do well if he can replicate his run against Cubic Zirconia.
Spirit Of Calinup in the same race has a bit of ability and might go around at good odds.

You would have to think that Believe The Cat will break his maiden status in the 6th at Bunbury tomorrow.

All starts to-date at Belmont have been full of merit despite being listed in steward’s reports on all occasions.

Likely to start short but as an anchor in your multiples could come up with some good returns if some roughies can get up with him.

Tricky little race the last (Class 1) at Bunbury tomorrow.

At this stage just 7 to face the starter 4 of which resume from a spell.

Ex Territorian Cry Macrist might be worth a dabble. No luck last start when wide throughout. Checked severely when avoiding a fallen rider at the 600m the start before when fancied. And two prior starts at Belmont not beaten all that far.

My selection at Ascot Tues 01 Nov 2005 R5 #9 The Gray Bear ran nice 106 when leading throughout last time. Small field today means he gets soft run in front again. Other dangers are all mid/back markers. Harvey rides again. This time we will impose a mandatory $3 price as he is yet to prove himself in this grade. Probably won't get price but keep an eye on betfair. Happy Cup day!

And GO RAILINGS!!!! in the cup. I have him running at MASSIVE ODDS!

Well didn't quite live up to expectations today although did still run 2nd. The winner Master Minx was way too classy for the bear today.

Time marches on!
Just look at the last four places in the Winterbottom and you'll see the top 3 placegetters from the 2003 Railway Stakes (which were in order) Hardrada, Early Express and Mapperholic.

We can only hope they'll improve with more racing and distance.

Well, almost forgot the other reason for popping on the thread.
Congrats to the connections of the Diva and of course the Diva herself - now a living legend!

Might be now time for a life of luxury and maybe a bit of baby making if not already planned? ;)

So the Diva has been retired. Great news!
