Hey all,
I have to post these easrly becauyse i'm busy tonight and tomorrow morning. It looks a good enough meeting at Ipswich tomorrow, with a couple of promising types. Big fields are the order of the day (again), so the speed shouldn't be a problem. Backmarkers can find it difficult around Ipswich though, with the shortish straight and the fact that they have to set off on their runs early.
Race 1 - Pretty ordinary one to start on. King of Soul meets the easiest field hes likely to see in a while and gets in with no weight. If he can't get away with this, then its time to give up on him. Celtic Trial has been around the mark lately, and the run behind Cog Hill last time has been made to look a little better by that horse (having said that, he was beaten 7.5 lengths...). In this type of field, he might be able to run a race. I think its about time Parameter showed something too. If he can lead this race, i've seen him beat better fields. The last run probably topped his fitness off and i wouldn't be at all surprised if he went well tomorrow.
Race 2 - I've got a problem with horses that don't win, and so i've gone around Miss Mooney Mooney. Shes clearly the class galloper, but i'd rather see her win one first - especially given the price that they'll be betting. I've settled on Spur Me On. There is heaps of pace, which won't help and he usually gets better after one or two runs, but he is a really fast galloper and if Colless can cross on him, he can pull off some fast sectionals and get away with this. A Little Naughty will benefit from this easier class and the extra 100m. She was never going to beat Starlactic last week...but this lot, she can beat. Good chance. Miss Mooney Mooney for 3rd because she is class and probably won't miss a place. These wouldn't get within 100 yards of Virage de Fortune so she has to be inlcluded on that alone.
Race 3 - Pretty tough 2yo race this. Leondari On Ice has to be given a huge chance after drawing the alley when most of the other fancies have drawn wide. It was a good run last time behind Go Sequalo and that should top him off for this race. Nice chance. Cocktail Supreme has form behind Go Sequalo also, and streaked home last time at Ipswich. Has obvious ability and can figure in the placings tomorrow if he has some luck from the bad gate. Cole Trickle hasn't been handed nay favours with the weight i didn't think, but he has got nice ability and won't be far off them from the 5 gate. $13 in the paper is overs, doubt you'll get that tomorrow....if I saw it, i'd be taking it.
Race 4 - Now for the difficult 3yo race. These races are always good events and although the quality may not be all there for this one, they appear to be an even bunch. I've settled on Muscle Up. I've been waiting for this bloke to get to town. Hes been running some great figures around the provincials and deserves his chance here. The alley is terrible but i'm hoping he can get some luck somewhere along the way and not be posted 3 deep. If he gets in, i give him a good chance. If not, he is still one for the future. Dulacca Diva was the forgotten horse last time paying $22 odd on the tote. She is a nice chance tomorrow again, but she is creeping up in the weights. She may just be stopped in her tracks with 57.5kgs but i'll leave her in for 2nd. One at the bottom that might sneak a place in the field is Mister Mustang. Has been running some OK races around Toowoomba and gets his chance in a good race in town. Good place chance at big odds.
Race 5 - First of the main races, the one for fillies and mares. Its a raffle. Maybe Hasta La Ciao Ciao can improve with the tongue tie on. Got her tongue over the bit last time which i assume was the reason for the bad performance and back to this easier grade, i think she can show big improvement. Nice chance at better than E/W odds. Serenote is not suited at this track but she has been building to a win, with some nice efforts in good company at her last few runs. She has shown really nice ability in the past and if there is enough speed on she gets her chance. Charlie Cheese at the bottom appears way out of her depth but i've got a bit of time for her trainer, so i'll be keeping a very close watch on her.
Race 6 - Not a bad race the Eye Liner. Bit of speed in this one too, with Impaler, Sir Brekky, Shysu and Myabe Century Serb being thereabouts near the lead. I've settled on Diamonds and Chalk. Will probably get back a fair way, but with some nice speed on up front i think he can get home late. Top Marc is ready for a good run i think. From what i hear he didn't get a go at them last time (I didn't see the run) and so if they press forward a bit, and he gets a run at the top of the straight....he might be one at odds with a chance. Impaler meets a much weaker field than he did last time in the 10000. It was a top run and if he can reproduce something like that figure, he'll be mighty tough to stop tomorrow.
Race 7 - Like Sphenophyta. The trainer thinks he'll be primed for the Sunshine Coast race from memory, but i think he can get away with this on raw talent. These aren't a great bunch, so if this bloke is anywhere near right....i think he can win it. Cold Start will get out infront again and can give them all something to catch. Ipswich will probably suit him too. Maybe he can do what Mowerman did a number of years back? Similar odds :). Precise Timing is a solid performer who always seems to be around the mark in these sort of races and can be there again tomorrow...i just don't like backing horses with big weights in staying events.
Race 8 - Pretty awful race really. I like Tsolias as a horse, but hes got the shocking alley. I'll go for him anways as it saves from from picking another one :). He has run good races his last 3 and if he can get a softish run with some speed on, i think he can go close. Ears to Victory will be up near the speed and can kick on in this sort of event. If in doubt in these staying events, i tend to err on the side of John Collins :D. Sea Drive has shown ability in and around the place. Hes not the easiest horse to follow but can run well tomorrow in this standard of race.
Overall, a pretty good days racing. My best are Leondari On Ice, Hasta La Ciao Ciao and Sphenophyta with a eachway chances to Charlie Cheese and Top Marc.
Good luck all,
Sven
