Very nice effort by Plastered at only 3rd career start.

Some gay deceivers in this bunch MyHatMyCoat. Should be plenty of speed on, so maybe look for a swooper or two.

A few scratchings but still some nice tips yesterday MyHatMyCoat. The last race almost a great result for you.

Interesting to see DOMINIC TOURNEUR well up in the list Paddy.
Great record on country circuits, often riding doubles, trebles and the odd quadruple.
From memory, last city ride in 2001. Good to see a “battler” doing so well.

Must admit when I saw DOMINIC TOURNEUR up there with PAUL HARVEY I thought must be some kind of error, as I couldn't recall seeing Dominic's name (on race day) too often, if at all. Considering the accolades often bestowed upon Harvey, what a mighty effort by Dominic!

I've had a good look at Ascot today, but i havent finalised my bets yet.

2) 4. Cristobal
4) 6. Clockwork Orange
5) 11. Action Pak (e/w)
6) 10. Manjar Magic
 14. Dance to Heaven
(i expect Tribulot to be short in a race that looks above average for its class, barrier 14 - no good thing)

i think Pike has a very good book of rides today  Clockwork Ornage and Manjar Magic look the best atm

good luck today all!

Yes I'm not a happy chappie Sandgroper (talking through my pocket). Can’t knock jockeys on this forum, so I won’t

Mixed day otherwise:

My Thornbird, Prince of Vasac and Certified all saluted.

Twisted Kelly got too far back, ran on OK and will be improved by the run.

Higgins Gold ran an honest race for 2nd.. Feel he will salute the winning circle shortly. - Super Tom disappointing , even for a roughie. Dancing The Blues. Scratched.

She's Captivating just out of a placing, a win not far away. Latest Sovereign same comment as Super Tom..

Rebotto.took ages to warm up for 3rd. This 'n' That scratched.

Race 6 The Right Money unplaced but running on very well late. Follow.

Race 7 Key Flyer extremely disappointing. Have to forgive and forget.

Raise A Halo capable of tipping out Clockwork Orange and might find the 4kg rise in weight a bit too much.

This horse has failed in Listed company badly and Raise A Halo is dropping 4kgs but a horse on the improve.

Might be a big ask, but if the odds are there, be worth an eachway investment.

(11) Golden Delicious the hardest to beat. Impressive win first-up & looks set for a great campaign.

(1) Hardrada should go well first-up. Suited under the weight scale & likely fast race tempo.

(2) Irish Pride nice run first-up behind Golden Delicious. Normally does OK second-up

Looking at those in double figures, would include (12) Twilight Spy who should be race fit & was placed behind Golden Delicious at her last start.

Yes saw that Legend, paid even better here Well done!! sorry to say that I didn't take the pointer although had a bumper day with only 1 loser , (Golden Delicious) but then had a great place bet which covered the loss 10 fold. Didn't have a penny on Modem, (still kicking myself) had a small win bet on Big Dam, as well as 2 place bets on Cherry Blossom, and Tribula, and yes you guessed it, .... didn't take the tri not even for 50c

Unplaced Tribula (Roma Cup) has been retired. Strained her near-fore flexor tendon.

My tips for Belmont tomorrow are .......

PAUL HARVEY, (thats without GIVING away my place bets hahah!)

But the 2 that I like best for a win are Ambers Halo and Ca Cao, which are also among my place bets as it happens.

Good luck to all

Reported in today’s WA press that Northerly is still progressing well, although Fred has ruled out a Spring return at this point in time.

Good to hear that things are still progressing OK Perth Placegetter. Guess they need to be slow & careful. Do you know the latest on his tendon injury, is it fully healed yet?

Sandgroper
6th June 2004, 11:20 PM
No not fully Paddy. Latest scan showed tendon still in repair mode, but getting better with time. Fred plans to mix work with rest in an effort to ensure tendon heals with enough strength to stand up to racing again.

Don't think he will make it back to the track - getting too old for another campaign after what is likely a very long layoff!

Could be right Unlucky Phil, we'll just have to wait and see.

Reported over here this morning, that Oaks winner and Derby runner-up, Fatal Attraction, is now in Victoria to be trained by Lee Freedman for the Caulfield-Melbourne cups double. Showed promise given short and limited career over distance - who knows, could just make the grade.

Paddy
9th June 2004, 08:26 AM
I'll be watching with interest. Fatal Attraction did improve dramatically when up in distance & as you mentioned MyHatMyCoat only lightly raced.

9th June 2004, 10:11 AM
I dont understand Fred and Northerly. What on earth has the horse got to come back for.2 cox plates and a caulfield cup plus about 9 mill in the kitty. No spring return so that leaves 2005,autumn or spring, another australian cup or spring cox plate no. three
let the ol' champ frolic around in the paddock .Remember when they tried to bring might and power back 2 races last both times
and sky heights the other month
why bother,let the champ retire

BettyBoop
9th June 2004, 10:40 AM
Agree 100% rabbitz.

Let him enjoy the rest of his life in leisure, surely he has earned it. Could break-down completely & need to be put down - for what!?

Paddy
13th June 2004, 05:38 AM
As per The West Australian website topsy99, Harvey has been suspended for three months for improper riding and warned that he could be banned permanently if he reoffends.

Chief steward John Zucal barred Harvey after finding him guilty yesterday of knocking jockey John Claite off balance in a Belmont Park race last Saturday week.

Announcing the suspension, Zucal said stewards had taken into account it was Harvey's fourth improper riding charge, and he had committed a serious offence which had an impact on the safety of other jockeys.

Interesting point Sandgroper. Have wondered for some time why he hasn't tried the big time. Maybe bigger pond syndrome.

Paul Harvey has lodged an appeal against his three-month suspension, claiming that the penalty is excessive.

He did not apply for a stay of proceedings to continue riding.

No date has been set for the appeal hearing.

Tritri's run was superb. Staeck's ride was average. Never gave her a breather once in the race. Did all the work and held on gamely for 4th. She'll be winning in similar company soon. Great ride by the kid William Pike. Time his run to perfection. He is a great judge of pace as some kids would have panicked and went too soon.

A pretty good mid-week race Paddy, let's hope the track holds up. Not a lot of rain recently, but more predicted.

Tritri goes well 2nd-up and should get a good sit behind the speed and prove a little too strong.

3YO Educated Money goes well fresh and should run well.

Regal Raider also goes well fresh and should be running on strongly at the end.

For value throw in Island Light, fitter for 2 runs after a spell and suited at the 1000M.

Reported that Mr Tambourineman's likely next start is the Darwin Chief Minister's Cup over 1600M on 10 July.

Only had a short break before first start in NT. The 1600M should suit down to ground. I'd expect a big run next start.

On his best form SHAKE MY HAND is not without some kind of chance in the Welter. 2 starts back showed a glimpse of best form when a good winner over 1100M at York carrying 4.5kg above the limit. That was his 3rd start back from a spell. Put in a shocker at his next start over 1200M at Belmont. Shorter distance of today's race is in his favour.

Any idea what they paid for him? seems strange for peters to sell one of his better horses and one that in my opinion was/is capable of winning a perth cup.

Well TRITRI will be TRINEXTIME for me.

Did manage a profit though, thanks to Chenille Prince / MyHatMyCoat tipping the winner (was your 1st pick MyHatMyCoat, not your 3rd  ) and a nice little bit of input from Sandgroper - see paid $10 place over your way. Though it had it won there for a while!

Jockey Glenn Smith will appeal next Tuesday against a two-month suspension and a $2000 fine for careless riding in the Belmont Guineas.

Smith, who rode eventual winner Coppertito, was charged after causing severe interference to a number of runners in the early stages of the Guineas on June 12, in which two riders were dislodged.

Hey guys great to see people talking about perth racing i am a bit of a fan over here on the east coast.Just a quick question if someone could help out and answer that would be great.I often wonder which way the wind blows in regard to the race course over at belmont because they always seem to come home alot quicker then they go out in races. So could some body tell me which way the wind hits them is it in the back straight or the side or is it the home straight and do they have a tail wind on any part of the track any help would be great guys and once again keep up the good posts.

Geez
6th July 2004, 05:35 PM
New to the forum but have been lurking for a while.

Being from the west good to see this dedicated thread. Some pretty good tipsters as well.

Not been to Belmont for a while but recall you would run south east’ish in back straight and north west’ish in home straight. If wind from the coast would imagine most effect (wind assistance) in latter stages of back straight and most of turn approaching the straight.

Having said that last few occasions at Belmont have been spent mostly under cover skipping between the bookie ring and the bar, so who knows anything (weather wise) could have been happening outside for all I know

Ascot’s probably more prone to the wind factor, but that’s another story and another bar

Chenille Prince
6th July 2004, 07:17 PM
Normally the jockey factor rather than the wind the prince. I don't really blame them. If you can get away with slow early sectionals why not.

Thoughts go out to relatives and friends of young apprentice Adrian Chan.

Apprenticed to trainer Fred Kersley, was having only his seventh race ride, when he fell at the Carnarvon Race Club meeting on Saturday.

Sustaining severe head injuries was placed on life support, but tragically failed to regain consciousness and died this morning.

RIP
