Givem a Go

A number of my punting mates consistently avoid backing horses ridden by 3 or 4 kilo claiming apprentices stating their race riding inexperience completely outweighs any reduced weight advantage.

This argument does have merit but in my view there are times where the 3/4 kilo claim CAN make a BIG difference.

CrazyHorse 22nd April 2006 10:17 AM

Sat 22 April

imo the 3 or 4 kilo claim today will genuinely enhance the chances of:

Ballina R7 CATFISH
Eagle Farm R4 RAMPANT LION
Kembla Grange R4 CANADIAN HEIGHTS
Kembla Grange R5 SUMEHRA
Randwick R1 MAHTOUM
Randwick R9 COOL FRONT

Ascot Al 22nd April 2006 12:28 PM

Ascot Race 3 (1) MISS CASTAWAY
Ascot Race 8 (2) CRISTOBAL

Both strong chances and both to be ridden by 3kg apprentice

TobinBronze 23rd April 2006 07:42 AM

Connections should get the full benefit of William Hernan’s 3kg claim on Winning Dancer (Edenhope race 7 today) which should be enough to see the mare notch up her 2nd win from 14 starts.

crash 23rd April 2006 08:17 AM

That new QLD girl Toni Hall [?] I think that is her name, rode her first race 2 Saturdays back on a country track [starts with B..Barcladine or something] as a replacement jockey as she was the only one available and won by 17 1/2 lengths [a record for a first ride] !!

There was another 4kg claiming kid up that way who just missed winning the whole card by a short half-head in the last at another country meeting. Keen as mustard they are.

I read about them in 'just racing'. Yep, give em' a go I say.

TobinBronze 24th April 2006 10:21 AM

Great result!

8 - Winning Dancer $4.90 $1.70
9 - Watchful Joan $6.90
1 - Byzant $6.80
2 - Sky Nought
Qin 8 - 9 $195.90
Exa 8 - 9 $122.00
Tri 8 - 9 - 1 $1,632.30
Ffr 8 - 9 - 1 - 2 $4,700.20

byanose 25th April 2006 08:17 AM

Yep great result for you TobinBronze well done!

I think Striking Victory can run a bold race in the 7th at Randwick. Is resuming but goes ok first-up and ran 2nd in a recent Rosehill barrier trial. Drawn well and gets in extra well after the 3kg claim.

Good ride by the young apprentice & a surprisingly good DD divi (Striking Victory – field) :)

suds 27th April 2006 11:39 PM

ROCKHAMPTON R2

..the 3 kilo claim for young Tyrone Huxham should make a world of difference to the winning chance of Craiglea Miss

..after the claim she will carry just 2 kilos over the limit

..and she just loves racing at Rocky and the 1000 is an ideal distance

sportznovice 29th April 2006 09:05 AM

ENJOIN Newcastle r2 looks a top hope even without the 3kg claim! Did well first-up Wyong this class and placed 2nd-up previously. The claim's a bonus!

sorry was r1  short, but a winner :)

peanutz 30th April 2006 09:16 AM

Tamworth race 5

DIAVOLO now trained at Tamworth will come in 4kgs under the limit after apprentice claim. This should offset the higher class and looks a big chance ew.

zaac64 1st May 2006 10:28 AM

The 3 kilo claim for Mandy Radecker should ensure a strong showing from My Son Day Doomben race 8. Also resuming today but did win first-up over 1000 Eagle Farm back in Sep 05.

sportznovice 2nd May 2006 10:07 AM

BLIKSEM Orange r3 has been in fair form of late and is capable of better. Has shown improvement last 2 starts and with the 3kg claim could surprise at big odds!

PATfromPERTH 2nd May 2006 06:18 PM

Kalgoorlie Sprint (CR4)

The top-weight Dance To Heaven has gone up considerably in weight courtesy 2 successive wins Kalgoorlie sprints and she would be meeting the likes of Star Of Telesto much worse off tomorrow without the 3kg claim for Mark Ewe. Hopefully this move should enable the mare to continue on her winning way.

armchairjock 3rd May 2006 09:30 AM

BULLET EXPRESS

I've selected BULLET EXPRESS on the CUPS thread (Kempsey Cup) but was initially concerned could be used up a bit early from wide draw (to take up a handy pos) with the steadier of 58kgs. Now not as concerned after realising has 4kg claiming apprentice which brings his weight down to the limit - 54kg.

Dubbo Race 3 REGAND PARK HANDICAP

SATIN EXPRESS back to right class today but up in weight. The 3kg claim ensures that the gelding will be given every chance to win.

Mitchell Beadman

Mitchell Beadman (a) 4kg will make his race riding debut at Goulburn today riding 2 horses for John Hawkes.

Mitchell is the son of Darren Beadman.

His rides are R6 No 5 Mysore and R7 No 11 Rum Cruise. Both (imo) have very good chances of winning.

Well it turned out to be a great debut by young Mitchell!

Very confident ride to get Mysore home to land a winner at his first official race ride, then little luck on Rum Cruise when trapped wide with Rum Cruise responding very well to Mitchell's riding over the last bit to finish a gutsy 2nd!

A very solid debut by Mitchell!!

CrazyHorse 8th May 2006 10:46 PM

Great debut by young Mitchell (all of 16yrs)!

Showed patience beyond is age and race riding experience and he is already pretty adept to hands and heels riding.

CrazyHorse 8th May 2006 10:51 PM

Hopefully we can get the bickies in the 1st at Taree tomorrow!
(3) Pride Of Pine, trained at Taree, looks to be thrown-in based on exposed form and the 4kg claim for Ms V Schubert!!

CrazyHorse 10th May 2006 09:50 AM

Nice win

Had my bickies with afternoon tea! Nice ride by the apprentice!!

CrazyHorse 10th May 2006 10:19 AM

(3) King Of Soul in the last at Rosehill should start double figure odds and looks a good EW chance with the 3kg claim for P W Murphy. Last win Dubbo Cup over 1600m and is having 3rd run back.

Young Matthew Morris looks to have a nice book of rides at Eagle Farm today. In particular (12) Cigallo in the 3rd and (6) Brebeaudan Lad in the last. The winning chance for both horses should be enhanced by the 3kg weight reduction for Matthew!
