Desert War out of the spring carnival

Desert War back to the spelling paddock after the gelding was found to have strained his near foreleg following a below par performance in a recent Rosehill barrier trial.

Sporty 1st August 2007 01:25 PM

Geez that is bad news but at least they discovered the injury early enough to hopefully rectify

westman 1st August 2007 03:01 PM

Got to laugh. An article in our local press this morning has Gai Waterhouse claiming the reason for his poor barrier trial performance was that Desert War was fat and unfit :)

sportzfan 2nd August 2007 09:27 AM

Being fat and unfit could have been a factor in sustaining the injury during the trial!

westman 2nd August 2007 12:03 PM

What were they thinking

ijuandaQLD 2nd August 2007 03:55 PM

should have had liposuction pre trial

Brissie campaign alittle greedy maybe ?? ,,,and especially after that gutbuster Gold Coast run...But Gai runs them in anything and always has..

interesting to see how good Hawkes will do after giving alot of his talented young stars a very easy time...me thinks he'll be dominating this spring and beyond..

Monitoring / managing / publicising a horse's weight is something that has been touched upon now & again on various racing forums in the past. Has some merit imo.

Works OK with greyhounds but never thought about a similar process for horses!?!

watsonnek 4th August 2007 09:47 AM

punts2 4th August 2007 09:54 AM

yep aiming for the 2008 autumn carnival

watsonnek 4th August 2007 11:09 AM

The extra rest will probably prove a blessing, very hard campaign that last one!

Read an article some time back where in the UK they were looking at mandatory weighing of all horses before a race. Don't know the outcome.
