Thumbs down Desert War out of the spring carnival

Desert War back to the spelling paddock after the gelding was found to have strained his near foreleg following a below par performance in a recent Rosehill barrier trial.

Geez that is bad news but at least they discovered the injury early enough to hopefully rectify

Got to laugh. An article in our local press this morning has Gai Waterhouse claiming the reason for his poor barrier trial performance was that Desert War was fat and unfit

Wink

Being fat and unfit could have been a factor in sustaining the injury during the trial!

Brissie campaign alittle greedy maybe ?? ,,,and especially after that gutbuster Gold Coast run...But Gai runs them in anything and always has..

interesting to see how good Hawkes will do after giving alot of his talented young stars a very easy time...me thinks he'll be dominating this spring and beyond..

Monitoring / managing / publicising a horse's weight is something that has been touched upon now & again on various racing forums in the past. Has some merit imo.
