Betfair wants to pay the industry and taxes to the Government.
The % amounts invested with them will never come within cooee of the % in Britian because we are an outdoors lot here, so most of the money will still go to the TAB. We don't have the English weather that incourages indoor hybernation. Could anyone image many punters huched over p/c's on a Saterday arvo?
What happened to the US recording industry when they successfuly lobbied the Gov. to ban Napster [a US online music sales company]?
They just watched lookalikes spring up offshore who paid no tax or returns to the music industry.
For the punter this is a big chance for us to improve our $$$ situation. It may also have the benificial effect of reversing the outflow of punters from racing. Especialy given the new potential offered by Betfair to excite, by being able to play bookie and lay bets.
Time moves on and waits for no man. Vehement voices against Betfair, such as NSW former chief steward John Shreck wants it to remain still. I'll give odds that it won't.
