If the lady is a published novelist why not approach your local library to see whether they would be interested in the diary, manuscript and letters.

After a few inquiries we found out the Lady needs for nothing as she is quite well off financially, so we are taking your advice Angry Pixie about the knife proceeds, cash, and manuscript etc. and handing them on to the library, as the lady in question was very well known there. They could certainly use the money to buy a few more LARGE PRINT books as there is a lot of elderly people here [God's waiting room].
