here is a more complex way to work this out.
Track record 525
Time = 29.45
525 / 29.45 = 17.83
length of a dog assuming .07 is the correct length , .07 X 17.83 =1.25mtrs at record time
Dog is beaten by 10 lengths beaten =10 X .07= .7 = 29.45 +.7= 30.15
29.45 X 525 / 30.15 = 512.81 metres
525 - 512.81 = 12.19 metres difference
12.19 / 1.25 = 9.75 lengths
