A 2 class competition, those who pick for the Win and those who pick for the Place...
Why get front row on Place bets taking advantage of your the percent calcs,
The advantage is 3 chances to score.

Where with Win bet, you only have one chance to score

Cheers

Yep, Puntz I think you are right and was why I was betting the place. I was playing the percentages. The chance of a big percentage win is small, but the chance of a loss is also small meaning you never vary far from the breakeven and breakeven can get you into the finals.

.. or profit when it comes to live betting."

Multiple validation point selection method with criteria less obvious and in some cases completely invisible to the naked eye of the everyday punter. Who needs one juicy win when you can settle for 3 small bites out of a very ripe cherry.

Hat's off to you UB.

Cheers LG

I used to not allow any place only betting at all. But when you think about it, what we're trying to do is just make a profit or as close to it as possible. If someone is able to do that just by place betting, should you stop them? We'll see for next time. I may revert to a minimum of at least $5win on every single selection.

No, not at all.
The Place only bettor has 1st, 2nd or 3rd Result advantage, the Win bettor has 1st only and yet both may select the same runner.
It does not mean one is better than the other from a strategic angle to snag a profit, but who is taking the more risk ?
The Win only bettor .

Here is the draw for the first day of the finals which is this Saturday.

Major semi
(winner progresses to grand final on Apr 21, loser gets a second chance next Saturday)
Dillwar v walkermac

Minor semi
(winners progresses to next Saturday, loser is eliminated)
william v kellmark

Just a minor change to the betting rules used during the preliminary rounds. You can now post anywhere between 5 and 10 tips instead of 3-15 tips. The bet sizes remain the same as we've been using all the way through.

The person listed first in each matchup finished higher on the ladder, so they are given the "home ground advantage" of having 25% more to spend. The person listed first is allowed to bet between $125 and $250 while the person listed second gets to bet between $100 and $200. In each case, betting the maximum amount won't actually give you a better chance. Because I will simply be converting your total winnings back to a score out of 125 or 100 as the case may be.

The tipster in each matchup who posts second is only allowed to include one of the horses tipped by the person who posted first. Just to clarify this... The person who's listed 2nd doesn't have to wait around and post their tips 2nd. They can get in and post their tips first if they want to. But whoever it is that ends up posting 2nd in each matchup, they can only tip one of the horses that the 1st tipster has picked.

In the unlikely event of a tie, the match will be awarded to the tipster listed 2nd.
