Yeah g'day,

Our generous Bhagwan recently provided details of a site which should assist you greatly:
http://www.ozracetools.com
In answer to your specific query the correct method to follow is to add 1 to the odds of each runner and then inverse bets on each runner:
eg. 2/1 + 1 = 3
3/1 +1 = 4
then inverse bets, ie4 units on the 2/1 runner(return 12 units),
3 units on the 3/1 runner( " 12 units),
so whichever runner wins you collect 12 units for an outlay of 7 units.

Cheers.

I have looked at the multiple runners idea and found it is better to put the same amount on each runner....if you are backing say three runners just stay away from runners under $3...in the long run you will make more money this way....i find when dutching when the good priced winners come in you never have enough money on them.

Heres an idea one might like to try out.

Betting 1 or 2 horses a race.
If it ran 3,4,5 last start , bet 3 units.
If it ran 6,7,8,9 last start , bet 2 units.
If it ran 0,1,2 last start , bet 1 unit.

The idea is to try to instill some value against the over bet horses that ran 0,1,2 last start.

Thumbs up rostram

rostram, yes it can be done, it is how i have been betting for some time now, often up to 5 nags in the larger fields. i started off dutching with mixed results, as shaun points out, when the roughy gets up youve got ************ all on it, so even stakes are the go, much more profitable in the long run but on the bad days the damage is much greater, just got to wear that tho.

dont know how you arrive at your selections but without a mix of varied priced runners this can be a expensive betting method, by that i mean one shouldnt think they can back the 2nd, 3rd & 4th fav on a regular basis & come out ahead, there needs to be a good priced nag or two thrown in to make it worthwhile.

I agree with Davez,
im a dutching man myself, must say i only do three or four.
My findings with which way to go, either perentage on each nag considering odds or say 10 units on each regardless are this.
I found that it is more profitable with the 10 on each, it is also easier to put the bet on and as stated, when the 5th selection at 12-1 comes in, your way in front. This is a system that ive used for a long time now and find that if your bank can handle it, you can make a good little profit.
Just for your info, my results dutching four per race:
av strike rate is arround 60%, i normally double bet after each loss as the high strike rate offers safety, the thing ive noticed though, if you divided the percentages and only put the bets on against odds, sometimes the fluctuations on tote means that even if you win you loose, therefore the "flat" 10 units per nag has worked pretty well.
Good luck

Of course it is possible....

It is possible to take the whole field at the right price. But you would have to dutch them..

I only [generally] ever bet for the win on one horse per race now after 25yrs. or so betting on 2 runners to win and the odd period of experimenting with Dutching more than 2. Betting on one horse only per race has been the more successful period . I certainly put far more effort into my form study when I was younger betting 2 runners, than I do now betting 1 runner.

Perhaps it works this way: Your records show you win 1 in 3 races betting 2 runners to win and 1 in 4 races betting 1 runner to win. Therefore you are having 6 bets for 1 win versus 4 bets for 1 win. What you won't find in your records is that in races where you backed 2 runners you had twice as many wins as in races where you bet 1 runner to win. The laws of probability take care of that. The more bets you have with the odds against you the more you increase your loosing chances and the amount you might loose. Ideally [the mathematically ideal], your punting life would consist of just one bet only for the best price you can find.

It can apply to as many horses as you like as long as the odds converted to percentages do not exceed 100 when totalled.

An easy way is to convert the odds to percentages:-

2/1 = 33%
4/1 = 20%
6/1 = 14.28%
8/1 = 11.11%
Total 78.39%

Using the percentages as staking units 33 on the 2/1 shot, 20 on the 4/1, 14 on the 6/1 etc the total outlay will be 78 and the return approx 100 should one of them win, a profit of 22 units.

If you want to Dutch the whole field bar one then just lay the one you don't want to include (say 4/1), which is the same as backing all the others to win at 1/4.
